Re-Volt?! What happened? Are we already in 2014? :w00t:
(or is this becoming a warez site? oh, joy :D )
edit: but I agree. Re-Volt is really good.
This game is pure love. :kosta:

One of the worst RC games imho... I even liked Big Scale Racing better (which was bad enough).

hmm, am I the only one having problems getting this game to run? I go to extract it, and then towards the end, it says "error reading file"
Then, if I try to run the game, it starts loading, then says "Can't load neneric sfx wavs\moto.wav into slot 0, if i press ok, it goes on to give that message (with different .wav files) 20 times. Any have any ideas?

The only racing game I ever enjoyed. Once you unlock the Clockwork Carnage racing mode there comes even more fun :D
Btw., you should consider getting the CD version of the game, the music tracks on it are half the game.

I always meant to get a copy of this game, but the concept of weapons seemed a bit out of place so I picked up the Need for Speed games instead. Still, it does look fun... *Eagerly awaits the completion of the download* ^.^

Well I download mirco-machines and have not tried it out yet. But it is an indoor racing game too. I am not much on racing games, but if Blood-Piggy whom also does not care for them likes it this much I must check it out! :w00t:

It's not just indoor game, there're enough levels "outside" too. It uses real physics too, just that the cars are not the real heavy street cars but toy RC's which has been taken into account. Each car also has it's lighter or heavier weight, so don't say it doesn't use real physics. Actually this game makes more fun than many of those "professional racing games with real physics" out there because it's about game fun and not about the reality, at least that's my opinion.

Well, we were running low on games in the Completely Ready folder, so we all took a vote and finally came to the realization that, only and ONLY as a last ditch effort, we should dip into your file and upload a game of yours...but don't get too accustomed to this :ok:

Aye, I am having the same problem. I ran the CD-crack, but it doesn't work. I keep getting a "failed" on the performing crc-check.
This game looks like a blast. I'd love to be able to run it.

Yah, i had the same error message when unzipping the file. Also got the error when running the cd-crack. But the game appears to run just fine though on Windows XP (i'm not using DosBox).
Anyways, I just played the game and I must say it was pretty fun. Of course you'd need to have slight intrest in racing game in order to really enjoy though. Players from other genres may not like it too much. I think the initial issue is that the default controls sucks. It litterally is setup to play like an actual R/C race car (for any of you who never had one when you were a kid - they were big fad in the 80s - the R/C remote had an up/down and left/right stick on it). This configuration may be cool in real life, but it totally sucks in the game. I had to readjust the controls to make suite my needs. From then it was on!
The game does feature very realistic physics - for a little R/C toy car that is. When jumping the curbs or ramps you're litterally flip and flying all over the place. It is a bit tough at first, but after a few runs to get a good feel for the track, its actually not too bad. I like race games for their realistic simulations, but this one was actually fun as hell. Before I realized it, I was playing for 45 minutes. This game reminds me a lot of the "Mario Kart" games on the SNES and N64, especially when getting the different weapons and shooting each other with it. And those were really fun party games. Now what other game features a bowling ball as a weapon (I would say Serious Sam but that was actually a giant cannon ball)?
Too bad theres no music though...oh well. And I'm not sure that the constant loading from different menus is really efficient. Players with slower systems may have to wait a while to get things loaded. The developers should of re-thought the loading system when coding this game. I just happen to have a pretty decent system so it doesn't bother me too much....but i'd be a little annoyed if my system was slower.
It also appears that the game is near identical to the N64 version, except for the long load times. Of course, the PC version looks better in higher resolutions (1024x768 32bit). Too bad I gotta work tommorow..otherwise.... :whistling:

this is nice.... although as i found out on harder difficulty cars are faster, but opponnets use cars from higher ranks like in semi-pro they will use cars classified as pro. not really fair if you ask me...
still i like it a lot. very fun and sometimes very chalenging.

Amazing. I never thought I'd see a game from this era up on Abandonia.
For the record, the game DOES have very exact physics, but they're RC car physics, not one ton muscle car physics. Don't expect to pull powerslides in a 3 pound plastic and aluminum toy car.
Also, the music from this game was CD music (track 1 of the disc was the data, remaining tracks were the in-game music). Since including this would have increased the download size by an order of magnitude (that's x10 for the non-mathematical ones), the music was dumped. Too bad really, the music is quite good.

I normally don't like driving games either. I'm not interested in driving some lame car in some lame enviroments, I could have that in real life if I wanted! ( Well, not driving the car, being underaged ^_^ )
The only driving games I've liked are something with weird vehicles, tracks out of this world, and guns of course.

I myself actually liked Carmageddon II. It had that feeling of a post-apocaliptical game in some scenarious, and in others it was just plain crazy. :P But unfortunately I'm getting off-topic here. Bleh, time to update my blog. LOL
Edit: but still I agree with you (with the Re-Volt part)

This game isn't so well-known like some others eventhough it's not that old, so it's not a big surprise it's become abandonware. Try to search on Google for Re-Volt, you won't find that many hits.

You... you... defiler! Sinner! How dare you!
Erhmm..
This game is load of fun for it's time, until it becomes utterly annoying, mostly because of it's difficulty. I don't like this game's physics at all. The cars don't seem to have any grip, while actual remote controlled cars have amazing grip. Also seems like the cars have no weight at all, except for the panda. :)
This is nostalgic game whatsoever. Brings a lot of great memories. Ahh..
Cool Game! I played this game many time ago... :w00t:
I really love this game and I know there are others who love it just the same. Why? Because there are dozens of free selfmade tracks at http://revolt.speedweek.net/main/news.php
Some of theme are even better than the ones that come with Re-Volt. Check out London1969 und Mines of Alderon.

Great game...
though I encountered one big problem. The game run in weird screen mode. The game screen is somehow "laying" from left to the right instead of from top to the bottom. Pictures with the disclaimer and Acclaim logos are displayed normally but after this the screen becomes weird. Anyone have this problem? Or any idea how to solve it?
.../after one hour/
...well this game sucks. Menu screen always twisted, game crashes, the patch overwriting the no-cd version, crc-error with winrar, winzip....geeze.
Here is a patch that works http://www.geocities.com/ssjampo/utilities.htm

I can't believe this is abandonware! I guess Acclaim is dead although they still have www.acclaim.com for Acclaim Games. I still have the demo for it and loved it especially the special effects of the wepons and tracks (although it only included Toys In The Hood right way up only). Can someone tell me, is it hard playing a map upside down reversed? I've never seen a game that allows that!
I wish I could download it but I have dial-up... and it doesn't contain music (which sounds good) oh well! :wallbash:

It's a lot of fun I can tell you. First it's confusing since you get used to the normal direction and side of turning so you keep bashing in corners and walls from time to time, but after few tries it's no problem.
The higher difficulty levels of the game are only for one thing good imho - to reach the stars that are placed in some levels on very hard-to-reach places. For the usual runs I always use the lowest, "slow" difficulty speed and it's perfectly fine too. Not too fast, great grip and opponents are always an interesting challenge (especially with the better cars later in the game).
The weird screen mode happened to be a problem for me earlier too. It's a problem of the game with some graphic card drivers. Usually the newer ones work flawlessly, sometimes though the older one's are recommended. Buggy game anyway, and no newer patch than the no-cd one (I couldn't find any on the net) which isn't worth it for me since I prefer the game with it's CD music :P

from wikipedia:
Acclaim suffered severe financial problems in 2004, the result of most of their video and computer game titles selling very poorly. This resulted in the closure of Acclaim Studios Cheltenham and Acclaim Studios Manchester in England and other places and their filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, leaving many employees unpaid. Amongst the titles under development at the UK studios were Emergency Mayhem, and Made Man.
On 1 September 2004, Acclaim filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of New York , which will virtually annihilate their company in liquidating all possible assets to pay off their enormous debt which reportedly tops USD$100 million.
An attempt to reopen the Cheltenham and Manchester studios (under the new name Exclaim) failed due to legal wrangling over IP, with both the US and UK administrators claiming rights.
In August 2005, former Activision executive Howard Marks purchased the name "Acclaim" for a reported $100,000. In the beginning of 2006, Marks formed a new company called Acclaim Games. According to a job listing for the company, Acclaim Games will "be the first US major brand to bring some of the most successful online games in the world, specifically designed to meet the community and multiplayer experience that the 36 million U.S. tweens and the 41 million European tweens want."
On 7 July 2006, Throwback Entertainment announced that it acquired over 150 Acclaim-published titles and vows to bring some into the next-generation.

You should quit the game after every 3rd run so it saves your progress, before it crashes since when it does it doesn't save the data. Btw., anyone else encountered the game to crash like that? It does for me always no matter the version.

Revolt is truly a masterpiece. The best racing game I've ever played, no doubt.
Yes the game crashes, it was crashing on me long before this download appeared, I guess it is just a problem with the game.
Because the game has autosave, quit it after some time, it is the only way to be sure that you will have a save.

Found that out the hard way. Won all four sinle races to earn a new car and was halfway through the first bronze circuit when the game crashed. Fired it up again and found I had to start from scratch. Glad to hear it at least saves if you exit the game properly. Glad... because this game is every bit as good as Piggy says. Thanks!!!

The latest patch 1207 should get rid of several problems you can have with the early version of the game featured on Abandonia.
You can apply to update to this abandonia RIP without a problem, as the patch has no more cd check.
You can get it on Fileplanet,
http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/sportpl...ltpatch1207.zip (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/sportplanet/rva/revoltpatch1207.zip)
But for people having problems with FP, i uploaded it on rapidshare
http://rapidshare.de/files/35599108/revoltpatch1207.zip.html
To apply it, just extract the files (keep the install paths during the extract) in your Revolt main install directory.
Once you have applied the patch an extra step to ensure eveything will run correctly :
*launch the game
*in the Options -> Audio Setting -> turn OFF the Ingame Music (important to get rid of some crashes)
Once done, quit the game to save the options.
Then, you can launch the game and play as much as you want.
An important notice:
There is a problem in one of the tracks between some system hardware and some of the "stars" that can be picked up on this specific track, it can lead to a crash when racing there (i think it is the museum track, i don't remember exactly)
The 1207 patch provide you with a command line argument " -nostars " that will get rid of this potential crash problem
Add -nostars to the target line of your shortcut to the game executable
example of a target line :
C:\Re-Volt\revolt.exe -nostars[/b]
enjoy the game

Yes, but you can't unlock it by normal way like other cars :P
This game is truly great but very buggy. I myself experience the bug in which the image appears rotated 90º, every time I start the game; I can get around it changing the resolution. That refreshes the video and I can change again to maximum resolution without experiencing the problem... until the next time I start the game over. Also the game crashed every time I tried to race with any of the advanced cars, but patch 1207 has fixed that. Other minor bugs and crashes have appeared in a non systematic way.
for those who think the game is hard.. there is the name trick to unlock the stuff
type CARNIVAL instead of ur name and that will unlock all the cars and special cars.. ufo probe(love flying that thing around), clockwork and the mystery
once the cheat is activated.. u will heard a duck sound.. LOL
personaly i beaten the whole game a few times and it was a blast.. even played alot online on gamingzone back in the time.. those game of 6 - 8 players was alot of fun :)
my biggest issue with the game was mostly that freaking scary noisy sound it was making when loading a map or menu... i said scary cause eveytime i started the game and had my volume up.. i had that loud shishshhhhshshshhshshshhshshshshhshshshshhshsh very very loud.. like 4x the normal volume.. :/ was so noisy i had to turn off the volume while it loaded the maps <_<
and some minor issue with the loading screen
have fun with the carnival thingy :)

After one day of playing this game:
This game really shows us how a truly great idea can be messed up in the wrong hands. Now I found the game really annoying. Beside with the 90 degrees screen rotation bug I really hates when the race starts without counting adn the camera stays for two secs on the start line. I think thats just because the loading time which is the same like the one of diablo 2 level. Multiplayer game is also shitty...when you finish the race you must quit the game and host a new one to continue (again with the whole process including the loading of the race).
I am not surprised that this company went bancrupt.

I hate that bug at start of the race. I ended many times bumping into other cars + it sometimes crashes when loading. Other than that this game is good, but annoying part is that selfdestruct bonus that always comes at wrong place in a wrong time. (...but in multiplayer that bomb is extremly fun )

I never encountered that screen rotation bug, maybe because I used always the nVidia cards such as earlier nVIDIA MX-400 or whatever it was called, and now nVIDIA GeForce FX 5700.
The delay bug is sometimes annoying but not a big problem, it's only starts immediately and you can move the car immediately so nothing is lost as long as you're reacting quick enough. Just follow the road direction while you're driving, the camera will quickly catch up with you.

Guess what...sometimes when the track is new you can direct your car right...
Anyone has any idea how multiplayer works? I mean we are able to race one track...but when the race is finished I can do nothing like "start the next race" or something...

Does anyone have or know where I can download nVidia RC car? It's a green car with nvidia logo
featured in the game bundled with geforce/tnt2 gfx card. I loved that car.
The game crashed when I had won the platinum cup, now that was annoying. Wells I had won because of a bug anyways... <_<

Re-Volt is a medicore game.
Good things:
+Cars
+Tracks
+Cups
+Power-ups
+Autosave-feature
Bad things:
-No music
-Sometimes kinda hard to control the vehicle
-Some tracks are very hard to win (even with the most lowest difficulty level)
-Annoying beeping sound at the "3..2..1..GO!" -screen

Yep it almost always crashed for me after all tracks of the platinum cup were down and the credits were about to load. I found the trick was (sometimes, also not always) not to unlock the big Panda "bear" car before the cup isn't won and the data saved after quitting the game. Still it crashes even without the Panda car very often.
There're only two sure options to win it - to try again and again until you have it, or to download this cheat (unlocks all cars and tracks) at DLH (http://dlh.net/chtdb/chtdl.php?lang=ger&id=4014). I prefer to try again and again, that way I have at least some fun and a feeling of have won the fair, earned way.
Hoge..

hey i downloaded it and really love it. It hooks you more than anything else. :ok: But the only thing is near the end of the race, right as I am about to finish the last lap the big "GO" sign comes up again and the race clock starts over. So essentially I could win the race in last place as long as I am the fastest in the last 7 or 8 seconds of the race. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks

I am mainly because in the same year they release "Shadow Man" probably one of the best (adventure) game I've ever played!
The loading time are very weird because Shadow Man only takes 5 seconds to load a whole 3D level and you can see stuff miles away but Re-Volt takes AGES!
Bad things:

There is music in the CD version (pretty good too) but this must be a rip...
Is the Toyeca the best car? What do you think?
Guest

Not really, Zipper and Cougar are the really best at their availability times. Homer is also not bad (that black car you get pretty late in the game). Toyeca is just too heavy to really speed up, and also too heavy to react good at the curves.
I have tried all cars and don't agree. If you watch the stats, the Toyeca's speed+accel are some of the best, almost as high as Humma's, but Humma's too prone to skid. I don't remember Zipper right now, but Cougar, being fast, takes forever to accelerate. The Toyeca is in fact one of the cars that react best at curves, and its speed makes it very easy to win every race except the annoying obstacle circuits. You should try all those you mention along with the Toyeca in a row, and compare the results.

Be sure, I tried them all as I played the game earlier for very long time, and Cougar is quite faster than Toyeca. You're right, Toyeca isn't that bad when there's nothing better, I confused it with another car, but Cougar is simply the fastest car out there, except that Panda car maybe and the UFO while it's flying but even Panda should be slower than Cougar. Toyeca is just a little bit too slow reacting at curves, Cougar can do that better. It speeds up slightly slower than for example Hummer, but when it's rolling there's no other car that can overcome Cougar. When I have this one, I prefer it over all other cars. Btw., I steer always with keyboard so maybe it's little different with a joystick. As to not confuse something, with Cougar I mean that yellow flat strong looking car that you can see competing against you before you have it yourself.
As for Zipper, it comes little late when unlocked but is still the best one until faster cars come. It's handy, heavy enough but not too heavy and very good at the curves.
I've just tried the Zipper and the Cougar again. The Zipper is vastly inferior to the Toyeca, the latter looks like cheating compared to it, way faster and turns sharplier. The Toyeca is one of the cars that turns sharpliest and skids less, certainly so compared to cars with similar speed, I can't see why you say that it reacts badly at curves.
The Cougar is better than the Zipper, I got good results with it but not as good as with the Toyeca. It's only marginally faster but it doesn't pay off for its low acceleration, which makes it way slower on the average when having to speed up at every moment after slowing down at curves, especially in the harder courses. And weight is actually a good thing, and the Cougar is in fact nearly exactly as heavy as the Toyeca, which is good.

Well you see, with Toyeca it was quite hard for me to win for example the first track of the last, platinum cup, while with Cougar (after I unlocked it by winning the cup) it was much easier for me due to it's faster speed. The slightly lower acceleration isn't an issue since when Cougar accelerates it overmatches the faster accelerating, but not as fast cars. And on the curves it's ideal. No idea *shrugs* maybe it's just my style of steering that Cougar suits me better, at least I never failed to reach the first place on every track with it while it wasn't the case with Toyeca. If you set the speed display in the options to kmh or similar, so it shows the metric speed, you'll see the speed difference between Toyeca and Cougar especially clear. Toyeca is very fast, but Cougar is even faster ;)

Btw., if we could set up a multiplayer match against each other to try the both cars on each side, I could show you why Cougar is the winner and not Toyeca.

Beside with the 90 degrees screen rotation bug I really hates when the race starts without counting adn the camera stays for two secs on the start line. I think thats just because the loading time which is the same like the one of diablo 2 level.[/b]
Just hit ESC immediately after the race starts ans wait until the camera positions itself correct behind you, then continue. That way you don't miss anything.
Btw F1 switches between the three different camera views on your car. F2 toggles the behind mirror vew on and off, useful to see if one, and who, is behind you. F3 toggles a view through all cars in the race (press it more than once to switch to next car), following their location constantly.

Okay, sounds fun. Shall we? Please PM me if you feel like it.
The Cougar's acceleration is not slightly inferior to the Toyeca's, it's way so, according to the game stats (the coloured bars appearing when you choose car); the Cougar's is 65% of the Toyeca's. On the other way around, the Toyeca's maximum speed is 90% of the Cougar's. (Yes I measured the bars with a rule and made the operations. :P ) Aside from that, their weight is the same, the roadholding is equally good in both cars, and I feel the Toyeca can turn somewhat sharplier, which is good.
Well I tried both the Toyeca and the Cougar in the first course of the Platinum Cup --Supermarket 1. These are my results. I ran twice with each car to add some minimal representativenes.
COUGAR
First I came in 3rd place, on the second race in 1st place. But in the latter case I came only few metres ahead of the closest pursuer, which was the Toyeca by the way, and he was going to win but I got to pass him because of some severe crash he suffered when nearly there.
Average speed very similar in both races, 35 kph (*kilometres* per hour). I measured *average* speed dividing the total distance 6x502 = 3012 metres by the total elapsed time, which I measured myself with a clock because time measuring is bugged in the game.)
TOYECA
On both races I came very easily in 1st place, 100++ metres ahead of my closest pursuer which wasn't the Cougar in either case.
Average speed 37.5 kph and then 39 kph.

I guess the best car really depend on the track you are running, as you need a good acceleration on tracks with lots of difficult curves that slow you down, and a good top speed for tracks that feature long straight lines.
But a balanced grip/weight is very important mostly everywhere to not just hit all the walls in the technical parts of each tracks.
Of course, these factors coupled with how the transmission is : forward , 4wd etc..
On the "Stunt" track , i succeeded to get the 20 stars (and so unlock the funny "clockwork carnage" game mode) with the panda car, while i had a very hard time with other cars.

:sos: I've been reading this post, and was wondering if anyone is interested in setting up multiplayer matches. It was a delight to see Re-Volt on here, I purchased the game long ago and used to play online.
There is a program entitled "RV House" that can help you play online and find other people (www.rvhouse.net) and it will lead you to the big Re-Volt community.
Unfortunately for myself, I lost the game long ago and this version seems to have some trouble online, at least for me. Does the game crash when setting up multiplayer for anyone?
I'd like to try an ip address game if possible...any takers?

Yes, the version of the game available here for download seems to have some problems with multiplayer mode, maybe some files missing. One needs to have a full CD version of the game to play it online, it seems (I do).

Wow, I just downloaded this game and and it looks uglyier than the demo I have. I'm wondering why the font is so different and the loading screens too. The demo only takes couple of seconds to load (and it does it straight away) while the full version takes ages and waits like 5 seconds before it does anything. Also the menus are different and its also made by "Iguana London".
I have the music for the frontend/main menu and Toys In The Hood, is there anyway to put them in this game?
Oh and when I try to set up or try to join a multiplayer game on the internet I don't get any crashes although there arn't any games available...

I doubt you cannot, it's very old game.
This game was hellofa fun game to modify. You could modify tire grip, tire weight, general weight, acceleration speed, to speed.. You can always squeeze some fun out of racing games by editing car values. Other good games for editing are GTA series (from 3 to up) and Carmageddon series.

:bleh: Damn nice game - takes a while to get used to old fashioned driving style again but its fun and runs smoothly even in XP - thus crashes sometimes but seldom enough to enjoy the gameplay. One con is the cars act like small rc stuff with too hard rear tyres and the on-road and off-road vehicles have too much common characteristics - but nevertheless - its fun :ok:

To avoid game crash after the final, platinum championship is won and the credits are about to load - don't unlock anything anymore after the second championship is won, not in the single race, neither training (stars fetching) nor in the stunt arena. After the second championship you'll have to compete with the available humble cars against more advanced and better opponents which will be hard, but then you'll be able to finish the platinum championship too and then you can unlock as much as you want (and crash at the repeated final championship with the best cars :).
If you're at the platinum championship already and keep crashing... well, de-install the game and re-install it again. Unless you prefer to use the cheats to unlock everything, of course.
Same about the time races where you can unlock inversed and reversed versions of available tracks, only afte the final championship has been finished. The best car for it (in my opinion) is anyway Cougar, it's reaction to the turning at curves is acceptable enough at higher difficulties (which you will absolutely need to beat the insane time limits) and it's even faster than the big black panda and you will need all the speed you can get.

Anyone got any idea what I can do???

Oh, it posted! For the past few days, all I kept getting was a blank index page... anyway:
I just found an article on GameSpot from June about Throwback purchasing Acclaim's titles. One of them is Re-Volt. In another article they had an interview with their CEO. They said that they are excited about re-selling/ expanding the games, especially Re-Volt! So, if you wanna play this game, you might want to download it soon before it's sold!
It seems I can't post the links for whatever reason (blank index page) but you can see the interview on Re-Volt's articles on GameSpot.

Yes, I'm quite sure it depends on the graphic card. Sometimes when everything is working fine the "3, 2, 1, GO!" appear inverted right to left alone over the normal image. Then it's even funny.

OMG I loved this game. Totally forgot about it. Downloading it now. Thanks!!
Great game! Sometimes annoyingly unfair, but you can be unfair too :-).
I played the original CD version (borrowed from a friend) some years ago, WITHOUT A SINGLE BUG (GeForce 2 and Windows 98 SE, anyway). But this downloaded version (abandonware? wow!!) is really buggy: no 3-2-1-GO (seen only once), stucking camera on start, sometimes crashing (other computer, ATI Radeon 9600, Windoze XP). So the best thing I can recommend is to buy that CD somewhere... it would be better (and you'd have all that great music too).
Thx for this pearl.

Great , great game!
But like all of you guys, I've suffered many bugs over the time. I had acquired this game in some different ways but I always ended up having bugs. First, there were the random crashes. That was so annoying, when you just won a cup but the whole damn thing crashed right before the autosave.
Now I have another bug. While riding one track (any track), I get the GO-message various times in one track, setting the lap time to zero. That was fun once ending as 4th in a cup-round, but thanks to that bug I ended up 1st.. :D
But the bug is becoming very annoying now, not being able to finish a race properly (with correct lap times, that is).
Other than the bugs, the game is absolutely fun, and I've managed to get an all green progress table several times.
Btw, I have to agree with Japofran, Toyeca is the best! Cougar coming in second place though (you can always try to race the shorst version of Supermarket (which one is that, 1 or 2?), Cougar can handle the icy floor perfectly).
AHHH YAY ITS REVOLT!!!! i loooove this game, BUT is there any way of gettin the music pleaseeee coz that was one of the best parts!

The 1-2-3 Go bug resetting the clock in the middle of the race has something to do with modern processors/hyperthreading and processors faster than a specific speed. Can't remember the details but should be fixable by running in compatibility mode. On windows XP you can right click on the revolt.exe, choose properties then click the compatibility tab and select windows 98.
This might fix other crashing bugs as well, who knows.

I don't think so. I was using the demo on win98 and there wasn't that problem, but now when winXP is installed(on the same computer) and it is now. It works in compatibility mode, but the sound sounds terrible except in the audio menu.

I like this game! Great fun when racing against my 7-years old son with the multiplayer option.
I downloaded several additional tracks from revolt.speedweek.net, very nice!!
But... I can only race the extra tracks in single race mode. When I select the multiplayer option there are just the 'standard' ReVolt tracks that can be selected, not the ones I downloaded.
Is there a way to play the extra tracks in multiplayer mode? I know there is when you race online, but I just want to play ReVolt on 2 computers with my son over my home-LAN.

Great game, but very difficult! :hammer:
Use joystick or gamepad, it's much easier to control the car .. but not unless you have good joystick driver with "sensitivity" settings...

I recall a similar issue occuring in some other old games. IIRC disabling hardware scaling in the graphics card controls solved the problem.
This game in particular is incredibly buggy. Search through the Net for and download the available patch(es) --I think they should be added to the Extras section since this game hardly works in most systems without them-- and you may have a bugged but playable and even fun gaming experience.

I really am amazed that this is abandonware, I mean comeon— nvidia didn't give it the 1999 game achievement of the year award for it to end up like this, it really is a superb game!
The company that bought the rights to Acclaim's games (in one big convenient package) already have made a version of the game for the PS2 only, but under a new name- RC Revenge Pro.
Â*Â*Â*... they ruined it.
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*1. "I get the no CD in drive error and after I put the compatibility for '98 I get another error: FT_Thunk(Kernel32.dll) any idea to make it work on XP?"
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*2. "There's no music in this game"
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*3. "crc-check, failed. ERROR: patch not applied"
1. It's a problem with the SecuROM protection on the CD that they ripped it off of, you need to have the 1207 patch on it (it has a no cd crack on it) for the game to work on newer computers.
2. If you want to hear the sound, you'll need to download the 0916 patch (1207 disables in-game music), then find the music files from somewhere.
3. You're looking at the wrong patch, the patches for this game you just unzip wherever you installed the game - done.
I don't find this game buggy at all other than the start of the race countdown on XP- but only with the tracks that came with the game, user-created tracks are fine.
If anyone is interested or has problems playing online I could make a full .iso of my re-volt disk and upload it somewhere.

Thank you for reminding me of this gem!
I downloaded the game and raced a few times. Then I decided to test the network support but as the others already mentioned it didn't work. So I began investigating.
What I did was I downloaded an iso from emule. I installed the game, applied the 1207 patch and suddenly it just worked.
And yes, DirectPlay is supported, but will be dropped on all directx-versions for whatever comes after windows xp ( vista and forward ).
Please tell me if I should upload / how I upload!
Cheers

Upload what and where, exactly?
It seems the multiplayer funcition of the download here is broken (?). A healthy full version could be made available in the ISO cellar, and if possible the download here should be replaced with a rip of the healthy ISO?

I just saw this on the RVHouse page:
Re-Volt can not be bought at the moment Re-Volt's original publisher, Acclaim, is bankrupt. However, the rights have been bought by Throwback Entertainment http://www.throwbackentertainment.com/ which has said they intend to make Re-Volt available again soon. After Acclaim went bankrupt there were several "abandoned games" sites that provided Re-Volt for free download. It is however illegal as Throwback owns Re-Volt now, so no link to such downloads is provided here.[/b]
We should perhaps keep eyes peeled for when and if that remake pops up...
Anyways, as the Revolt CD is an audio-CD I'm going to utilize JJXB's app to make the package.
Do you recommend any specific site for uploading?

What I was trying to tell you is that normal play ( if you don't want to go via rv-house ) then you cant play. But when I downloaded an iso of the game it worked just like that. So there seems to be a problem with the version uploaded to abandonia. Now I keep an archive of the game ( with the same size ) but it actually works over the internet. I played vs 3 people using nothing more than a router and a copy of the game.

Great game, but does anyone else have problems with the game randomly crashing during load screens? It really sucks to win the Platinum Cup only to have the game crash while the menu is loading. I think it happens when you play 4 games and try to play a 5th game it crashes. When you plan to win a cup, play the cup and after 4 games restart the game.

Hmm, I think he meant 4 tracks, not 4 cups, and the game indeed crashes after every 4th or 5th track, varies. If you play the last, fourth cup though, the game unfortunately 'always' crashes after you've won and the credits are about to load, because there're 5 tracks to come through. The only way to be able to have won and unlocked some nice cars seems to be to modify the configuration files by yourself...

First off, whoever said that the company who bought Acclaim's properties made RC Revenge Pro is very, very wrong. Acclaim made that. Throwback has, so far, not released a single game.
As for the glitches, I'm not sure what exactly is in the Abandonia file (I have the original disc), but after installing the latest patches and setting it to Win98 compatibility mode, it never crashes. Ever. Technically, I don't even have the latest patch, I use the 0916 patch because I have the CD and love the soundtrack. For anyone using this version, you should certainly use 1207, as it is the last patch. I've never encountered the random rotating screen on any of the five computers I've played this on, so I'm not sure how you deal with that. I can tell you that there is an unfixed bug with Ghost Town 2; it will crash if you play the level with more than the default 8 cars. Other than that, as long as the files in the zip are good, it should work fine. I've never had trouble moving my data from PC to PC in that way.

If you play it on the easiest level, where the speed isn't that high and the maneuverability isn't such a pain in he behind, you can play it even with keyboard keys without problems. The higher difficulty levels are IMO anyway only useful for time trials to unlock inversed and reversed versions of the tracks, or to reach otherwise inaccessible stars for new cars, but not that really suitable for normal runs.

It's weird that noone speaks of the inabillity to save your progress. I won the bronze cup, but when i restart a chamlpionschip, the silver cup is still locked?? My trial times are saved though but the progress-table, even when I won a race in championship-mode ==> Only red crosses.

For anyone starting any new game I would advise to it at the easiest level, if there is any. That is what always do where ever possible and then progress to the highest and most difficult. For example I now play Colonization at the Viceroy level! Had I tried it when I first got, sometimes in early Nineties I may have had to give it in frustration :)! But then there are games, I think all Sierra games, where there is no choice and it's a matter of hit and miss, trial and error - the only way you can play it.
So good luck. One learns from experience rather than active help or simole advice!

Just an update for you other people out there who's trying to run this via wine
(wine-0.9.56 on ubuntu 7.10 at time of writing)
I had loads of problems running this because it could not locate the cars or levels folders. Im not sure why but it executes itself in my linux home folder and not where it is "installed", maybe it is due to it not being truly installed (win registry etc) or It could just be a wine, or me?
Anyway, if you pass the correct line through terminal:
cd /home/user/.wine/drive_c/GAMES/REVOLT/ && wine revolt.exe "-C:\\GAMES\\REVOLT\\"
replacing the path with your install dir it should launch properly, well, buggy as it and wine is
I have found an original .iso complete with patches and all. I'll set ut up shortly and see if it performs better under a proper installation and pach-procedure

--- Install ---
Right, a proper install (10 secs :-) will register the game properly.
--- Registry in case you use the abandonia files ---
I think this is reg entry that does it:
wine regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\App Paths\revolt.exe
values being:
(Default) ; REG_SZ ; c:\games\re-volt\revolt.exe
Path ; REG_SZ ; c:\games\re-volt
or wherever it is installed of course
If this is manually done in the registry via wine you should be able to play the game. Didn't try it though.
--- Patching on linux ---
Before you start
There is a great uppercase/lowercase inconsistency between the original install and the patch, probably doesn't affect windows at all, but on linux Muse1 and muse1 are different.
I renamed all of the inconsistent folders/files (all level folders) and the german.txt
and reapplied the patch
Patch 0916 supplies track editor update and a new revolt.exe, nevermind that one unless you want the track editor updates.
Patch 1207 supplies a number of new files (and new revolt.exe removes protection)
After applying them the game starts in the proper path as version 1.10.
It appears to be more stable after the patch, even though it will occasionally crash, especially during startup and when demos loop.

Since you didn't apparently bother looking up the relevant posts by yourself:
* Did you try running the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode? This seems to fix some of the issues.
* What is your graphics card? When did you last update the drivers? Prior reports indicate the problem occurs only on some graphic cards and on particular versions of drivers.
Recommended way of approaching that is first installing the latest drivers, and if the problem occurs with them - uninstalling them and installing the oldest version you can find, then update it wth successive newer ones until you find one where the game works normally.

Altough that's a solution, it's not what I meant. Compatibility Mode is a neat feature in Windows XP and Vista, that helps you in solving problems with running vast majority of old Windows games.
Right-click the executable (or the shortcut to it, will work just the same), select "Properties" from the menu, then go to the Compatibility tab in the window that opens. Click in the first checkbox ("Run this program in compatibility mode for:") and choose Windows 98 from the drop-down menu.

I don't want to go through all 205 posts, so I just post this here: anybody noticed you can (easily) edit car specs? I played this game rather a long time ago, but maybe I'll download it again...
The specs can simply be text-edited. It is really hard to make the Toyeca better (my favourite back then) but it can add fun to alter parameters like tire width and grip (so your opponents do nothing but spin their wheels :hihihi:), or make a forklift of your car (by making the rear wheels turn instead of the front ) and so on.
Great game.

hello, re-volt fans !!!
just noticed that re-volt has become an abandon game. way back then when i played this game i contributed several cars and helped make content for a tons of tracks. seeing this game and all the comments sure bring back lots of memories. this was the first game i was serious about editing and it taught me a lot.
several of us took this game to a whole new level of fun. its a shame that todays games are clamped tight and no longer favor community contributions.
when you get tired of playing the 'as-shipped' version of re-volt, there is another book full of chapters of enjoyment.
the main site BiTD was RVA -
http://revolt.uuuq.com/
several of the links still work and the content is worth getting if you really enjoy this old classic. i dont know how long these links will work.
my personal favs were : the nascar mod with correct tracks, the super-mod cars and the real r/c cars. if you get them and play them i guarantee you will not be disappointed.
I am CADster and i give permission for you to use any content i made in re-volt. i also give permission for anyone to host the content i made for this
game as long as you do not charge others to download.
Guest (CADster)
27-01-2010, 09:28 PM
i can also give permission for abandonia to host all the community
contributed content as well.
back then we all shared content and helped each other make stuff.
i was in several groups (RVCC, TM&M) and many contributors
used my models.
i would love to see this stuff hosted somewhere else like here at
abandonia.
fileplanet requires you to be a member and pay for decent DL speeds
ive always hated that kind of data mining crap and pay to play stuff.
...maybe thats why i left the game scene years ago.

Perhaps try mediafire? It's free. We can put your mods and models into the iso cellar then, if you like ;)

My DL status bar add-on isn't detecting how large the file is so the time and percentage is unknown already at 41MB.

i always wanted to add the online multi info to the review but never got around it, now i added it
There are still even online competions going on which is quite amazing considering this game is from 1999!
Races are held in RVHouse (http://rvhouse.zackattackgames.com/) and results can be posted to ReVoltRace (http://www.revoltrace.net/).

Ah I have always wanted to inform you, but somehow forgot.. The re-volt download available here is buggy (many new people who downloaded revolt from here and came to RVHouse reported similar crashes). I don't know for sure what the problem is, but you can download re-volt from here: http://www.revoltrace.net/downloads/revolt-full-installer.rar I think it is a french installer, but it works like a charm.
After completely uninstalling your re-volt installation, try installing this one and see if it crashes with the new v1.2.
Thanks.

nope... get the same version after using your version too. installed it, replaced the old files with your new alpha build and nothing, it just crashes :/
by the way, thanks for the link to this version! it indeed seems much less buggy as the rip we currently have on abandonia. i will ask other guys and i think it would be even better if we replaced the current version with this one

That is so strange, it was tested on 3 xp systems so far and works perfectly. Can you just confirm if the old re-volt versions (without my alpha patch) works on the same pc?
And thanks for testing for us. :) Feel free to update your current version with the revolt-race installer.

yes it did. and now i can't even run the actual original re-volt after trying your new build, because it sometimes says `can't switch to 640x480 mode` and sometimes `can't create 3d device`, even after complete unistall and reinstall=/ (probably need to delete every trace of it from the registry)
About the original version's crashes, the new revolt doesnt mess with any registry entries. It is not possible for it to cause these crashes. If you are using the installer from revoltrace.net, the original one should not crash.
Anyway, to the interesting news: I found a guy today who had the crashing problem you had with my new build, and with his help, it is solved. You can quickly download the release here: http://www.mediafire.com/?3twff5rf8uz8bqk

it simply must store something somewhere
either it is windows directory or registries, i completely uinstalled the game, installed it in another directory again from the installer that you linked me to before and i still get the message
DDERR_UNSUPORTED: can't switch to 640x480x16bit mode. in the background i also hear the sound when you plug out and plug in usb device for some reason
maybe the game itself stores something into registries after run(the installation version)
and nothing in my computer changed, the old abandonia re-vold rip still runs
by the way, i tried your updated version and it doesn't crash at the same place now but i get the same message that i get when trying to run a clean re-volt instal: DDERR_UNSUPPORTED: can't switch to bla bla
so i also tried running your new build on the abandonia's rip verison out of the curiousity and i get the DDERR_UNSUPPORTED message again.. :(
i don't know what but some bad settings are stored from the installation version... and both your build and the original installation that you linked me to must refer to it
edit: now i also tried running the rip again after switching back from your build files and i also get the same message now :whops: i'm stuck with the dderr unsupported message everywhere now. going to go through the registries now
The only registry entries re-volt creates are these"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acclaim\Re-Volt\1.0
Delete the Re-Volt branch and all should be fine. But what you get is a directx error. Surely it must be related to your graphics card. You can try deleting this key first if you want.. If that doesn't work, i'll think of what else that could cause this (which sure is not the new build).
PS: could be linked to windows 98 compatibility mode. Try turning it on or off.

just found 2 re-volt entries
hklm\software\acclaim\re-volt
hklm\software\microsoft\directplay\applications\re-volt
deleted both, reinstalled, no help. not sure what changed, i didn't install/update any drivers or anything similar. and i was playing re-volt just yesterday. tried compatibility mode too but no change neither. oh well
by the way, i noticed there are files mss16.dll and Mss32.dll, since it's trying to switch to 640x480x16 maybe that's the cause? maybe it somehow switched it's default settings to the 16 bit mode. could i somehow configure color mode/resolution manually?
Would be nice if you can come to rvhouse. http://rvhouse.zackattackgames.com
I'm online now.
btw, mss32.dll and mss16.dll are sound files. They don't mess with graphics.

What the hell, how come it's suddenly "protected" now?!

Not "suddenly".
As to your question, the current copyright owners have contacted us and requested the download to be disabled for the foreseeable future. We have complied with that request as a matter of policy - refusing to do so would just delay that outcome at the expense of a truckload of additional legal trouble for us.
