I will recommend that people start with this game, before they play Star Trail.

Plus this will give me sufficient time to find a version of Star Trail that is not copy-protected.

Well... I have an HD-only version of Star Trail that needs no cd and has no copy-protection (got from a ex-friend ~3 years ago, he downloaded it somewhere). Hopefully this is not pirateware, but the friend said it was abandoned even then... If you need it, just say it

Stroggy

well that was an extremely confusing and boring game
sorry but the entire way the character moves is insane and its easy to loose your way in the city because of both the odd movement and no real places of orientation.

thanks for adding it
but I don't think i'll play it (never been a big RPG fan anyway)

FreeFreddy

If you meant Star Trail, well, it is confusing to find his way in towns, but all you have to do at first is mapping entire town out (go anywhere the automap shows not explored). Then you'll see on the automap that many buildings display a certainly kind of building, be it a tavern or townhall etc. And there is an automatically placed description on the useful buildings in automap. So what's the matter? :D

Tom Henrik
20-05-2004, 09:13 AM
No, he meant the Blade of Destiny.

And yes... the game is quite confusing at first (see review), but give it some time and you will soon get the feeling for movement and such. If you use the directional keys on your keybord to move (instead of the mouse), it becomes a lot more playable.

FreeFreddy, That StarTrail game you have... Is it the German release, or the English? Also how big is it?

FreeFreddy
20-05-2004, 09:32 AM
The RAR-Archive it is in is 12 MB large, unpacked game is 23 MB large.
The game is completely in German. Ah, yes, there's more yet: supplied in the archive with the game is a crack for ignoring Doc-Protection, so I assume that was possibly an illegal download of it. Is it still illegal today to have this game in that way? I never played this version because I bought entire trilogy earlier yet on CD's and played of course only them (better CD-Music  ), so that's surprise for me.

Tom Henrik
20-05-2004, 09:39 AM
Hmm... Seeing how the general public in Abandonia speaks more English than they speak German, I don't know hoe putting a German game on the site will be appreciated....

But maybe that crack you mentioned can be used on the game already on the site? It's worth a shot.

And the game is abandonware, so you can do whatever you wish with it

Hmm, I think the German version would be great too, at least better than none, and most fans of the trilogy are German, cause this game is based on a RPG-system very popular in germany, DSA. Anyway, If it could b put up somewhere (Don't know where), it would be pretty nice for all German speaking people out there.

Wirklich?

:P
Anyone got that?

Haha, selten in nem Forum Deutsch zu schreiben, und das obwohl ich Franzose.Luxemburger bin!

Well, if anybody could host the German Version of the game it would be great, even though it wouldn't appeal to most of the abandonia fans. I really hope someone can find the English version, but for the time being, a german version somewhere on the net would be VERY helpfull.

hope some of you agree.

Anyone got that?

I understand german perfectly (everyday german that is... not poetic german) but I can't write it and, compared to most people I know, I speak it rather well (albeit with an english accent according to my father)

next year I'm going to learn German in school with my favourite teacher, so... yay

EDIT: on topic now: a lot of abandonware sites have games in other languages (usually german or japanese RPG's)

Tom Henrik
20-05-2004, 08:30 PM
Hmm... I'll have to take it into consideration...

If people would like me to find the German version of the game, please inform me. (I already have it on CD-Roms, but since I can't crack those... I will have to find it on the net).

I just came to think about a game, when you said some lists games in Japaneese, The Picard asked for the game Star Wars II... and that is (as far as I know) only released in that language.

Maybe we should open a Poll, to see whether or not to put up games that uses a different language than English...

The manual for the game is now on the site.

Unfortunately, it does not contain the minimum requirements for character creation, as I thought. Apparantly, in this game, you just try and try until you get it right. Luckily they changed that in the sequel.

The manual holds a lot of other interesting information, though... so download it as soon as you see this post.

FreeFreddy
23-05-2004, 06:30 AM
:D I have a document in Write-format on the CD of the game. There is all the other info abot the game that's not in the manual itself, as there are: all the requirements of character creation, detailed description of all spells (what stats affect the spell, what it does, and text-description of it), suggestions what characters are good for what actions of the game, just all the most needed information and it is fully detailed.
There is just one problem - it's in German!
Anyway if you could use it, ask me, i'll send it then to you.

FreeFreddy
23-05-2004, 06:39 AM
Hey, that manual of the game you wrote of, that's not true: it contains all of the character creation requirement, more at the end of the file, and there is all needed description of spells too... The german manual I have there is empty nutshell compared to this one (but luckily I have the manual in Write-format).
So I guess then, that document of mine will be not needed. 8)

FreeFreddy
23-05-2004, 06:51 AM
Damn, I write too much... Anyway you said you have the German version on CD, but no password-info, I am right?. The German manual I have contains the needed password-information for the game, of course in German. Ask if you need the file (.pdf-format, 470 KB).

Anonymous
23-05-2004, 09:09 AM
Hmm, as it seems, we have the german original AND the manual (in german, of course), so at least that version shouldn't cause any problems saving! I really hope we can get a completly working version of the game!

FreeFreddy.

I would love it if you could send me absolutely everything you have regarding the German release. Manual, passwords et cetera. :)

If the files are not to big, you could email them to me. If they are big we'll just have to find another solution

Can someone help me with the game?

I use Windows XP. When I run the game the mouse pointer doesn't work (well it works but extremely slow responding and completely unusable). On my old computer the game ran fine.

If you suggest me using dosbox, please be so kind to give exact step-by-step instructions on what I need to do, because when I follow the readme instructions nothing works (it says "dosbox: illegal command" when I type the command as shown on the readme).

FreeFreddy
03-06-2004, 05:03 AM
Just start DosBox normally, without any commands, then type in following:
1. mount c c:/spiele/blade (c:/spiele/blade is where the game is installed)
2. c (just that, nothing more, that's now the folder of the game within DosBox)
3. blade.exe (or whatever exutable starts the game)
Also, if the game is too slow in DosBox, you can speed it up - CTRL+F12 is faster, CTRL+F11 ist slower. If you have at least P4 with 2000 Ghz you can speed up to more than 9000 cycles, but for Blade of Destiny I guess you need just 4000-5000 cycles (DosBox starts by default with 2500 cycles).

Tom Henrik
03-06-2004, 05:05 AM
DosBox is the only advise I can give you, so here goes...

In the DosBox window, type:

Mount c c:\

followed by

c:

then

cd Blade (If your game directory is called blade... If not type the name of your Blade of Destiny directory...

You then finish it all up by typing

Blade

I have never heard of this problem before, grim. How much XMS memory do you have in the game? Also, are you sure you configured and installed everything correctly? It's always good to double check. Honestly, I'm not sure what the problem is though, as I've never had it and I've never heard any other instances of it. Maybe you should redownload the game just in case, as well.

I've been looking for recent or upcoming games in this vein myself, the pen and paper, statistics tweaking sort of game... having had a nostalgia attack recently upon finding the (fortunately intact) cd for Shadows Over Riva, and the first 2 on abandonware.
Any suggestions about forums or sites where I might inquire would be appreciated.
I've tried D&D TOEE, NWN, Elder Scrolls, Dungeon Siege etc.

The dosbox instructions are useful btw, so thanks all!

Huh?

If you are looking for a good pen-paper RPG with the feel from Realms of Arkania you should try out Ars Magica :ok:

paynesgrey
02-10-2004, 02:59 PM
Thanks! I might have played ars magica in recent years and think I liked it....hard to recall, having played so many...

I should clarify though, I'm hoping to find PC based RPG's in such a style, as the job, girlfriend and such limit my serious roleplaying options at the moment...plus a limitted pool of gamers in my town...

FreeFreddy
02-10-2004, 03:17 PM
I don't think you'll find any PC game based upon this one, aside from that one from 1999 or 2001, but I don't recall it's name now. It wasn't based on the same story as the trilogy, but was playing in the same world. From what I remember though, it was not very good one...

paynesgrey
02-10-2004, 03:29 PM
understood...I'm happy with anything of this style actually, although I do love this gameworld. By style I mean, party based, detailed statistics and customization, the detail with food, foraging and such was great too. Maybe someone will put Ars Magica to PC someday :D

You'll probably want to run the game in Dosbox. If you don't know what that is, head here (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1). Once you've gotten it running in Doxbox increase the framespeed and everything will be running fine for you.

:ok: Thanks so much for putting this game up here! I used to have it as a kid, but I never managed to finish it. Anyway, I just completed it and I just have to say it's one of the best RPGs of all time! And by far the best game in the Realms Trilogy.. Did anyone else find Riva a bit dissapointing??

FreeFreddy
15-12-2004, 11:25 AM
Well, yes, after the much freedom of the game world that the second game, Startrail offered, Shadows over Riva seems a little too small and enclosed, especially since you cannot leave Riva through the exit in the forest near the town. But it's still cool enough, especially when you import your party from Startrail or Blade of Destiny. And there're enough areas in the game to make it big enough.
The only disappointing thing that I found about Shadows over Riva is the point where you become shrinked and need to abandon all your equipment that you gathered so far to enter the nest of that spider-whatever queen. That was always the point where I stopped the game, after I played it through the first time.

I got stuck in Upper Orcam dungeon. Can anyone help me? It made me download a walkthrough and it says that there should be a secret passage in a cross-shaped room with teleporter in the center. I cast Penetrate and I can see a room on the other side of the wall but I still can't pass through it! There is a statue of Dwarven god above the wall where secret passage should be but manipulating it doesn't seem to help.

For those that can't save the game.

It is not the directory that is read only, but games.nam file in blade directory. In Windows Explorer click on the properties of the file and unmark read only.

Wow! What a great game for an old school roleplayer like me! :ok:
It really got me interested about the original pencil&paper game...

Is there anybody out there who possesses information about the exact function of all the various spells? The names can be quite confusing at times, and you have so many available since the very beginning that... I don't really know what my party members can do! :help:
The PDF manual does not explain much about the spells (it only provides statistics). Did the designers of the game originally mean players to find that out by trial-and-error?

Also, is there a built-in method to view the stats of items (weapons, armor, etc.), in-game? Such as knowing how much damage does a certain weapon inflict. Or, are players supposed to guess, based on name, appearance and price - only?

The original P&P game ("Das Schwarze Auge" DSA or "The Dark Eye" TDE in english) is now in its 4th edition. The support for the english version is rather weak though, as it was never a hit outside of german speaking countries. Maybe to low powered, maybe not enough hack 'n slay.

But if you are interessted in this P&P game, just go to the homepage of the producer www.fanpro.de OR to one of the two most important fanpages: www.dsa4.de or www.alveran.org.

The producers page should be avaible in english as well, and the shop does hold the currently avaible english books. On the fanpages (they are in german though) just look for the forum, and post away in english. Most people will be glad to answer your questions, and try to help you.

Hello everybody,
the original game came with a map, which was rather helpful 'cause you get all those hints for the map parts and then you have to figure out how to get there. It'd be nice if somebody could post the map that showed the roads and the name of all the places. As it is it is annoying to guess where each place could be since travelpoints only show the next place you can reach. Hope somebody can help me with this.

This game and Startrail have one of the best soundtracks ever created in a computergame. :kosta:

I loved the nonbattleskils alot and i was addicted to wandering around the map to find new cities, dungeons and caves.

Hello!
I played the english version of this game now and I mentioned that my english is not good enough for so much text. Is it possible that you could make the german version ready to download? Hi

Question about dungeon in the Thorwal - on the 2-nd level after big battle with bandits I found door on the 3-rd level, but can not open it. How I can open this door? I found some key after battle, may be it is for this door but how I have to use key? Give in the first PC's hand?

Thanks

Why don't u just use a spell to unlock the door ?

I have all three versions in German here. They were in a magazine a few years ago. Great game and wonderful soundtrack.

I mostly love this little town Daspota where you have a fight in every house, every tavern and every cave and dungeon ... that ROCKS and make your chars level as hell. Anyway I didn't finish the game yet ... I always faild to get the last piece of the map ...

You can occasionally refill the waterskin during the travels, there are some places that you can encounter.
But you can't refill them in towns as far as I can remember, just buy new, full ones. ;)

If you play it in DosBox, you can listen to music if selected one of Soundblaster cards or a MIDI card.

If you play it in Dos shell (command.com attachment) with Soundblaster drivers that are compatible to the old Soundblaster standard, or even in Dos mode though without sound, yes. But you would need a program that slows your PC down if you use at least a 500Mhz PC. This is a good one and easy to use: Slowdown (http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/16960.asp)

When I run Blade this way Windows'98 says that only this program can be run and is reloading in the MS-DOS mode.

Maririta
20-08-2005, 10:51 AM
I've tried in both Win98 and WinXP, I don't think running Blade in Dos prompt (which I assume you're using, do correct me if I'm wrong) is a very great idea (might just be my computer, but I got four freezes and one computer automatic shut-down); if you have a newer computer, use Dosbox. If you want to hear the music relatively unchopped, as it tends to do that, I've found that setting Dosbox on CPU Cycles: 3471-or-so/Frame Skip: 2 plays the music like my 486 would play it (I got best results on Thunderboard [and, of course, PC Internal Speaker XD]; Roland tends to go on overdrive and end up sounding like a long, long beep and Soundblaster is guaranteed to give in at some point and it chops up the most - my soundcard emulates almost all old soundcards, so it could be that, too...). Running it on Win98 will result, more often than not, in a crash, although if you insist on trying it, you can always right click Blade.exe, go to Properties -> uncheck 'Run in DOS mode' from the extra settings [or, in XP, Compatibility -> Run program in compatibility mode *whatever*]... but I won't recommend it, as you'll have to either play without music or lose your mind fiddling with the memory settings). Usually in a place you'd rather not make your game crash in. :) WinXP, I believe, won't even run the game without manual help.

Dosbox, Dosbox, Dosbox, all the way, unless you're lucky enough to own a 486.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong and please let me know if that made no sense. :) Coming from a country where English is not a first nor a second language, my use of said language can be a bit halted sometimes and I know my explanations often lead to more confusion than clearness. *g*

Anyway. I'm working on a site with maps of the towns (all three games) as well as general gameplay information/character creation tips/whatnot you might find on a fangirl's site. Will keep you posted, as I've noticed many people have problems with the mapping system of especially the first game.

Sorry for confusing you, if I did. :)

Great help, Maririta! And I should say that you have done a considerable job by providing us with all this info. :D All in all, this is a great game which I am enjoying since a very long time. If you've got any additional info, then please gimme, okay? Great.
By the way, how did you passed the dungeon under the Battle-school without getting your team poisoned by the gas? Plz keep it up. :D

You don't have to collect all parts of the map to find the Hygeliks sword. Even then, you can find the Unicron and if you make yourself nice (forgot what you really have to do), he will at some point give you a random map piece, or something like that. Sorry, didn't quite understand that, like many other things in this game, and played it long time ago. If somebody played this to the death, then it was me and a friend of mine. Anybody else maybe?, have a lot lot lot of questions... for instance, does anybody know what the red moon disc is used for?

Man-i had this game down pat as a kid! I used to put it on the computer, play it, win and take it off-tn put it back on a few months later 'n' win against the orcs, then take it off. For some freason, my father decided to delete the disks the game came on- had a million disks floating around and he deletes the game disks! So its been years since i have played, adn i am so happy to have it again. But-i am having problems!

I am trying to run dos box and it tells me c:/ drive does not exsist. I will mount it into c:\blade but i will sil be in Z:\ drive. some how i have gotten to c:\-oh. wait, maybe i found part of the problem. still! i have gotten the game to open, but then i can't get past the intro. Never had this problem before-infact, never saw the intro before. how do i free myself of this incessant intro?

>>>SPOILERS<<<

Right. I have travelled the Phexcaer-Skelellen road back and forth and I cannot find the Orc Cave. I can't find the Orcish army without going there and retrieving the document. Does the cave disappear or something after you get all the map pieces? I have eight and have already got the sword, but that's no use without an army!

Alrighty, just one question: in the dungeon (master dramosch quest) in Thorwal, at the second level, how do you open that locked door with the stairs to the third level? I got a key from the fight in that room but I guess the key is just for the chest that is there as well.

And also, on that very same level: that hole which leads to that smuggler's place which always seems empty...does it ever have anything useful if visited at some correct time or is it always empty?

I can't find any detailed walkthroughs on the net (nonexisting apparent), so it's a bit of a hassle...

Alot of people have problems with this door-and others...What I always do is get a magician or a mage to a high enough level to cast the teleportation spell then get past those doors with that (you have to cast penetration first).

I recently got stuck in teh mine in upper orcam. I fell thorugh a hole, and landed on the second level, but as i would try to move, i kept getting "you feel a jolt" and ended up in the same spot over and over. So, what did i do? I tricked the programing by going backwards out of the trap-and it worked! so remeber, sometimes going backwards, or even walking somewhere without light you can get past some of the traps.

For the person who who can't find the orc cave-make sure you have the person with the best perception and tracking skills in front. they will help determine if you find it.

i have almost won, but i forget what to do after i get the sword and the document! its still summer of 16! i got my stuff fast this time. i gues back to thorwal to wait...i'll figure it out tonight. then its on to star trail! yay! new one!

Hi,

I have problem in Hygelliks (?) tomb.
On second level there is closed doors, without lock, behind it stairs leading to Grimring sword. Near the door there are two corridors, each with a lever and a mirror.
How to open this door?

Approach the mirrors through going backwards towards them.

These replies are all great info. Thanks to everyone. I am playing this again, although I never finished it the first time. I seem to remember having a great time hiking around and fightin then an encounter with several groups of "battle mages" and one very long save ago made me put the game away.

All my questions have been answered here. Thank ye thank ye, all hail you all.

My only contribution at this point is a recommendation of "D-Fend" for a front end to Dos box. I loaded BOD through the defaults on a Win XP 2nd system and it works good! Ctrl+F10 releases the mouse, ALt+enter makes full screen. Install the game in to c:\blade directory.

Quick question about the temple of the faceless god in ?Hjalland? (the little island). Im on the second floor(after taking the ladder down), in a little room with one chest. In the chest is a black crystal. I have tried to destroy it, but have been wounded in the process. Should i try to destory it or shoud it or should i leave it alone? Thx

Hi,

not sure if this has been asked, I didn't find anything about it in this thread:

How can I combine herbs and stuff to make a potion? I found a recipe and have all the ingredients that I need (for expurgic, whatever that is/does...), but I don't know how to combine them. Anybody care to help?

Thanks

Scatty

First you need one of the party members to have positive points in skill Alchemy, and the more the better chance of succeeding. Second, you need to have all the necessary ingredients in the inventory of this one character. And third, you need to rent a room in a tavern for around 2-3 days or more. But don't rest there, just click on the hand icon to access the special options and there you can select Alchemy and the potion you want to try yourself on. Might succeed if your Alchemy skill is high, or might fail if it's low, so better save before entering the tavern.

Expurgic is a weak poison, I think you put it on weapon, otherwise it's used on enemies in combat when held in right (shield) hand.

Ok! Listen up if you have ran into the point in which your game can't save because of an game.nam problem which you will know when you first open blade.

Here is the Solution to the problem:

Open blade fold
Find Game.nam file somewhere in the folder
right click Game.nam
left click properties
then look at the bottom and uncheck the read only
then click apply if you have the botton
and BAM!

Your set to save and load your game!!! :kosta:

Hi all.

I've read so many praises about the Realms of Arkania series and decided to give it a try since I don't mind huge columns of numbers (to the contrary, the more the better). I've completed my study of the manuel today but I'm still puzzled about the spells. The manuel doesn't really tell me what they do exactly, how they scale, numbers etc. So, do I have to aquire an old DSA handbook for indepth information or are their resources on the internet I might consult ?

With best regards,

EDIT:

I had to aquire Blade of Destiny from another source because the game reports that a file is missing at the beginning. It seems to be the introduction movie after I compared it to the version which can be downloaded at Abondonia.

IIRC, the level advancement occurs a) after you acquire neccesary XP and b) when you confirm that in the character screen.
Don't remember the details, it's been a while.

Enter the character screen and check around there. I remember clearly that there is no auto-leveling in this game.

Also, look it up in the manual (http://www.abandonia.com/extras/Realms%20of%20Arkania%20-%20Star%20Trail_Manual.zip).

Level 2: 5000 XP
Level 3: 15000 XP
Level 4: 30000 XP
Level 5: 50000 XP
and so on...

If I remember right, in a normal game you will end up having your characters at only about level 3 or 4 in the end.

Nope, at the end of the game you can have at least level 12 or similar if you explored the entire game. Good for entering Star Trail with advanced, stronger characters than to start from the beginning there. Not sure about the correctness of the exp values above though.

Realms of Arcadia was one of my first Pc-Rpgs i ve played and its really great fun to play it again. But i got a little problem. Where can i look up the damage and "Waffenvergleichs" (dunno the english word) statistics, of the weapons. I ve played it in German sometimes ago. There i didnt need the statistic in the game as i knew them all from the Pen and Paper game. Now i got the problem that i cant identify every weapon (especially the axes) :titan: so i need to look up the statistics in the game.

There's a spell that can be cast to identify magic items, don't remember the name now but I think it was Analys or like that, not Odem Arcanum anyway. Best is the magician to cast it, he starts with a reasonable level of the spell and it can be raised to good level.

No thats not the point sorry. There are certain statistics to each weapon in the game. How much damage points it does (5-10 for a normal sword for example) and how attack and defence changes in comparison to other weapons (6/6 for a sword again). I know one can look them up in part 2 if one puts the weapon to the eye of the character but this doesnt work in part one.

Hmm i also looked 4 it in the manual but could not find anything. :crybaby:

No you're right, you can't see such statistics in the first Realms of Arkania game. However there's a .pdf file on the game's CD (assuming you bought the game and did not download it from here) that shows the statistics (obvious and hidden, magical ones) of all items in the game. I could upload it for everyone to look upon (it's in German though) but don't know where, if one could point me to a site similar to Imageshack (http://imageshack.us/) for image files but for another kinds of files I'll gladly do that.

The Fifth Horseman

You can have it hosted on Abandonia.
Just PM Kosta on the subject and he'll give you login and password to our FTP server so you can upload it, and shortly after one of the updaters will add that under the extras for the game.

There's something of everything in it - list of all informants with or without map pieces and where to find them, NPC list, magic spell list, weapons and armors index with their exact stats etc. Keep in mind though that it's unfortunately in German and won't use much to many of you. Hey everyone,

I started playing Realms of Arkania 1: Blade of Destiny, and decided to try out the UGE (Universal Game Editor) module for it to tweak some stats of my chars.

I add the module to the UGE list, choose one of my savegames, and go in to edit it, but the variables listed are so whack. They just don't make sense! Most stats in the list are blank, or have values that are not true, or are not possible.

The numbers are just not on the correct scale. Clearly the module is not working right.

For Ex: It says Max hit points for CHAR 1 is "0". Obviously none of my chars have 0 max HP, but I change it to something like "45" anyway, to see if it alters anthing in-game. But when I go back in to the game, Char 1's hitpoints are still 35, as they always have been, and nothing was actually changed.

So it looks like the UGE module is not linking to the correct information. Anyone else have this problem, or know of a better save game editor for RoA1?

Thanks!

I actually never used any editor with the trilogy, just simple hex-editing. If you know hex-editing well, it's easy to find the values for every party member, be it his life, spell numbers (negative are all "overmaxed" values like D8 or FF), skill numbers or even an item in a certain inventory position if you're especially good (difficult one).
Search for a name of a party member in the savegame, from there it's trial and error (backup the savegame before).

Every time I walk backwards through the mirror, it says I'm standing in front of the lever, but then that is immediately replaced with a description of the corridor, and the pull lever icon is repleced by the camp icon. It might help if you give a more detailed description including where your party is.
If it's where I think you are you either have to split up your party or just use a spell to get the target area onto your automap and cast transversalis to teleport there.

Can someone help me out?
One of my characters seems to have been cursed somehow by a trap placed on a chest in the Ship of the Dead. Now my poor she-rogue is one stat lower across the board and i imagine, rather depressed about the whole affair. It's been several game days now, and i can't seem to bring her stats back up to their former glory.
Now, I know she's just a humble she-rogue and thus a fairly useless addition to my otherwise formidable party, but I'd still like to help her back on her feet (she did, after all, take the bullet for my ultra cool Elf). Can someone give some advice?

Mind you, i know nothing about hex editing and that uge thing doesn't seem to work.

The decrease in stats is usually due to catching an illness. If the cure disease talent is too low, you can try to heal her at healers in towns. Some are worse than others, though, and might be also not able to cure the disease, especially if you have had it for a longer time already.
Another reason for decrease in stats is being poisoned, which might very well apply here due to a poisoned spike trap at the chest. Same here, try using the talent, ask a healer for help, or buy and use a cure poison potion.

What I thought too, at first. Tried getting the party healer to try curing poison and disease; fed a antidote potion, miracle cure and random herbs to her; Visited several local healers but they said she was neither poisoned nor cured; Tried praying for miracles with Rondra (magic removal aura) and Peraine (heal member). Oh yeah. Apparently the kill and bring back to life method didn't do much either.

Ah well.... six more levels and i can repair the damage, one stat at a time, i guess...

Are her stats marked as artificially decreased or do they look normal ?

Scatty
12-08-2007, 12:10 AM
If the number of the decreased stat is in red, and no above-mentioned methods help, it might be a bug, in which case there-re only 3 ways open - re-import the same or different character at one of the temples (and level him/her all the way anew), reload the savegame before the stat decrease occured, or hex-edit the current game and undo the stat decrease.
I might actually hex-edit the savegame for you if you won't be able to, since I more or less still remember the adresses for character's skill and magic stats.

Your rogue probably got cursed when opening a certain container on the ghost ship.
A successful "Transformation Dispell" spell should cure this.

ha! roa trilogy is actually my all time favorite game, played it like 1000 times :)
and i checked version i have on cd, it is 3.09, here on site it's 3.02
since there isn't any documentation on changes, i don't know, but i did read an interview with guys from Attic
and they said they've got a lot of feedback and fixed it quite a bit
so if anyone is like 'yeah that's cool' or like 'yeah whatever just shut up' i could upload it someplace.
and also if you like this game very much, there were some games in dsa realm made for mobile phones. look up chromatrix in google.
sadly only 6 made it to english and i don't think you can buy them any more but you will find them in p2p networks and such

I can send you the login data for our FTP server so you can upload it there, and one of the updaters will replace the current archive with an updated one. :ok:

it's whole directory from cd with inn and ancient acrobat, i think for a dos,

it's a trilogy cd :) to be honest i've bought it recently myself to find out what extras are there. ther's group on yahoo dedicated to roa and some people said that there were manuals in .pdf and sometimes a map and all three manuals on a paper, sometimes. and actually ther's: 2 cds. 1st and 2nd parts on one. and riva on the other. only .pdf manual is for 1st part. there isn't cd audio (except for riva). no maps. and one paper manual that contains all three and i have 10 pages missing from it, from star trail section (the one i wanted the most) :) oh well, that's my luck i guess.
but i think german trilogy comes on 4 cds, star trail alone on 2. and there really is roa1 cd on ebay. maybe ther's something more.

There are actually two CD versions of Blade of Destiny on Ebay with different prints on CD surface, but no information about soundtracks. It would be a huge disappointment to pay the price and several times more for the shipping just to find out that there is no soundtracks (or they are recorded from MIDI, yikes!). Even if there are I doubt I'd like to pay several times more for shipping anyway.

Evil eye for example, it´s a domination spell, and I don´t have a clue of what it does.

We can always try to figure out what spells do by experimenting with them and then posting the results here. How about that?

For my part, I remember two spells:
Transversalis teleports the party
Fiat Lux creates magical light in dungeons

Train your chars to cure poison. There's also a spell for that (Klarum Purum, if I remember the english version well). Apart from that you may find antidotes only in the dungeon between Ottarje and Daspota.
The chest of the druid Gorah contains also a bottle.

You can see the char's talents and spells only in advanced playing mode. Every time you start the game, you may change the mode which does not harm your savegame.

Did the CD version not get uploaded? I downloaded and the version here only appears to have midi and internal pc music.

How can I determine my version? I dont see a way in game to do that.

Scatty
14-08-2008, 04:10 AM
The only difference of the CD version is the CD music and full speech in animated sequences, with the CD music taking the most part of the big size. I think the version on this site is the floppy version, as the CD version (2 CD's) was considered too big for the site back then, and is so even now.
I could upload the CD version of Blade of Destiny to the ISO Cellar, but I have it in German only so it won't be of much use to most here.

You could still try your luck on eBay, it might appear there from time to time.
Blade of Destiny btw. is only 1 CD, I got it mixed up with Star Trail (which I also happen to have). The difference from the floppy version is just playing the music from the CD which the floppy version can't access, so if you happen to find a version that can play music from CD's, I could upload the music in MP3 format which you could then burn to a CD or an ISO file.

I recently created a remake of RoA1 for Nintendo Wii.

I haven't released it, as I want to know what is the current legal status of such a thing. As I'm using all the original data files from the game, for graphics, quests, sound, etc.

The game seems to work flawlessly so far, ressembler 100% the appareance of the original item, and is still under beta testing.

If anyone think may be of help in any way, please email me.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Hi,
I've got a little problem with Blade of destiny. I see, that the game demands a "fee" 50XP for each save. And I'm the kind of player, that saves very very often, so this could ruin my party. Is there any possibility, how to cancel this annoying requirement? I hate cheating, but I'm not able to play with this. Thanks.

There are many ways to solve this:
You could:

1) Get the amiga version and save with the emulator.
2) Revisit certain locations in the game to get unlimited XP
3) Gain some XP, export your characters and start a new game with them (or import them into a prior save)
4) Use an editor/trainer to alter character XP (do a web search)
5) Alter your playstyle
6) ...
....

How do you open the huge door in the Ruined Castle (Hygellik's Sword is in there)??

It's got the 2 mirrors thing going on. I have no idea how to do it, and I can't find anything online.

I've tried splitting my party up, I've gone through the mirrors, nothing is working...

I can teleport past it, but I still want to know how to open it.

Since we can't translate the german tips, we can still gather what everyone knows.

The gods don't only affect the prayers, they also permanently affect the skills of your characters during the creation. We you create a character, he/she gets a random god. Here are the effect :

Boron : + 1 human nature
Efferd : +1 swimming
Firun : +1 Missile Weapon, +1 track
Hesinde : + 1 alchemy
Ingerimm : +1 tactics
Peraine : +1 Treat Wounds, +1 Treat Disease
Phex : +1 Stealth, +1 Pickpocket
Praios : +1 Courage
Rahja : +1 Seduce, + 1 Instrument, +1 Dance
Rondra : +1 Swords
Travia : +1 Treat Poison
Tsa : +1 Charisme

I think the gods also affect which spells have a bonus increase, but I'm not sure about it. I'm not sure if someone, who prays a god he/she was with, receive a better bonus or if he/she improves the chance of an answer of the prayers along with the donations.

Hi,
I ask You for a little help. I've got six map pieces and I need one more. But I'm unable to find it. From those three missing pieces - one of them I'm unable to get, because I ruined a dialogue with one of the map owners. The second missing has Kollberg, travelling merchant, but I am absolutely unable to find him. And the third has the unicorn. I found him, he promissed me that piece, but I'm not able to meet him again. So, do You have any ideas, how to continue? F.e. where to find that merchant? Or how to meet the unicorn once more? Because now, I'm not able to continue. I'm still wandering around Phexcaer to meet the unicorn and around Clanegh to meet the merchant, but without any success.
Thank You for Your help.

Don't remember exactly, but doesn't the unicorn give you the map piece immediately? Did you look at the map if you already have that piece? I don't think you're supposed to meet him again, in any case.
The case with Kollberg is a random thing. You could wander for a long time before you meet him, or it could be just on your way from one town to other. Tough luck there as there's a limit on available game time.

In cany case though, you don't need the complete map. Once you have a certain amount of pieces, you'll get a comment from a party member when you look at the map after receiving a piece saying something along the lines "now one can recognize something". That's when you don't need to collect any more remaining pieces, just go on the route from Skelellen to Phexcaer and you'll notice a path leading west after passing the mountain range, which you need to pursue.

Don't remember exactly, but doesn't the unicorn give you the map piece immediately?

There is a special ingame mechanic to get the piece from the unicorn. After your first meeting with it a timer starts, counting your ingame not-active hours. So your group must have a total amount of ca. 5 hours of doing nothing  You can do other stuff of course but every time your group has nothing to do and is not moved this amount will be charged. (Sry my english is not so good this morning). When you think it's enough go back to the lake and travel around it without camping. Then the unicorn should appear.
If not, travel around the lake past the black eye, camp then and break up the camp immediately and travel the lake back in the other direction.
One of these mechanics SHOULD work :)

In any case though, you don't need the complete map.

That is correct so far but at least you need 7 pieces of the map.
