Any body got some favourite shows of movies about WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaar?

Im watching Jarhead right now, and well, despite the swearing, its a good movie (i don't like profanity at such a large scale, but hey)

But to date my favorite war movie is Full Metal Jacket, and my favorite show is Generation Kill

What are YOUR favorites?

Depends on if you're talking about modern war or anything involving combat. Full Metal Jacket is good, but not the best. Depends on what you want from a war movie. FMJ has lots of great lines and scenes and is more entertaining to watch, but I'd say Platoon is a better overall film and best depiction of Vietnam.

Saving Private Ryan is probably the #1 to me with Black Hawk Down being second. Some other good ones are The Dirty Dozen, Apocalypse Now and the Deer Hunter (although not much actual war in those), Inglorious Basterds was amusing, Dr. Strangelove. There are even more you can include if you throw in movies that are about war but without a lot of fighting, like Schindler's List or Hope and Glory or Rules of Engagement. Or if you include movies about other time periods, like Braveheart or Gladiator.

TV shows about war... I haven't watched a lot. I watched Band of Brothers and Tour of Duty back in the day. Never really watched MASH. If you count something like NCIS, I watch that on a rare occasion.

War movie? I'll go with Kelly's Heroes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065938/).

Why has nobody mentioned Catch 22 yet? The book and the film. Go watch Catch 22. It will go wonderfully as a double bill with Dr. Strangelove.

I think I might do that tonight :)

The best war movie is Glory (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097441/), bar none. Best script, best production, ever.

Saving Private Ryan is one of the best productions, but the script is a little silly, completely implausible.

I like Full Metal Jacket too, very good movie.

Platoon is like any movie by Oliver Stone: an outstanding production, but full of commie propaganda and blatant lies.

Too bad so few know about "Unknown Soldier", based on the book of the same name. Both the book and the movie are fantastic, if such a word can be used about war.

I also like Dances With Wolves, that could count as a war movie cause it starts with the protagonist in the Civil War, trying to commit suicide by charging across a battle field, cause he doesn't want his leg amputated. But his blatant charge encourages union troops who charge across after him, and they defeat the confederates, and win the battle :p and the commander of the union forces decides to make his best surgeon heal the protagonists legs and gives the protagonist and option to go to any post he desires after the war, and our hero chooses one in the west

that was a spoiler. oh well.

Over There is also a decent show about the Iraq war

I liked "A bridge too far" from WW2 movies, other than that regarding TV shows Band of Brothers is great, The Pacific is kinda crappy and Generation Kill is probably the most realistic TV show about how modern warfare really looks like.
