How do you get back into the police station after arresting the nutter at the river? I'm using mo-slo but the driving is still tricky, but playable. When I get close to the station it tells me its on the left but when I stop there it doesnt let me get out. What do I have to do?

Just rembered the first time I played this part, how many times I messed up when arresting him.

1. When the guy's in the water - Tried to fire warning shot, shot him dead = Game over
2. When he ran at me - Shot him dead = Game over...
3. When I'd nightsticked him - Forgot to search & cuff him, concealed knife, got killed = Game over

Maybe I shouldn't apply to the police academy...

Did finish the game though, after at last getting a search warrant when I saw the adress in the background of the picture of the perps.

Thanks for the reply, but thats not what I was asking. I arrested the nutter guy fine and have him in the car and im driving back to the station, but how do you get out of the car? It tells me the police station is on the left but when you stop it doesnt let you get out of the car so where are you supposed to go? I know the station is on 6th between rose and peach, but I dont see any station there and it wont let me get out of the car. This is very frustrating!!!

Cool game! I'm having trouble figuring out how to drive but I'll refrain from asking dumb questions most likely answered in the manual I'm now downloading and keep running stop signs until I figure it out.

umm..the manual.zip is apparently messed up. When I try to open it winzip tells me it's not valid. It won't open. Can I get it somewhere else? I'll look and hope I'm answered if I don't find one. Thanks.

Thankyou! Got it and I'm able to read it. However, the reason I wanted the manual is because I thought it would give me tips on how to control the car while driving. I'm having a hard time after dropping Carol Reed off. After I drop her off and retrieve my cuffs I get into the car and the game loads right into the cartoon where the car is already travelling at 25mph and officer Morales asks that you stop at the mall so she can use the phone. I can't control the car! It keeps driving, flying by the streets and through stop signs etc. while the "movie" of Morales talking is going on. I run a stop sign and go off the road, crash, and have to restore the game to that point for it to happen all over again.

Is there another way to control the car with keys other then with the mouse, especially durring a time like this (while the watch/loading icon is present)? I know about the enter key working the same as left click. As far as I've found out you still have to move the cursor behind the car to brake and ahead of the car to accelerate if you choose to use the enter key instead of left click. Because Morales is talking to Sonny the watch is there and...I'm screwed. The car flies through the stop sign at the end of the street and goes off the road.

The manual claims "Operating Departmental Vehicle" is on page 18 but page 18 and 19 seem to be missing. What fallows page 17 is actually (I guess) page 20 and 21 which is Sonny's notes, drawings, and performance evaluation.

Where's the key map?

I had this same problem. I downloaded a program called Moslo, and set the computer speed to 20%. This is completely safe, and as far as I know is the only way to progress in this game.

Hello Guys

I discovered that if you are going under 15mp in the car it will not let you turn into the places eg the cop shop. So save just before you say turn into the street, put the speed on the motor vehicle say about 15mp and give it a shot. That is the only difference I did between goes.

I used Turbo. I changed while I was driving and then changed the Turbo to 100% while walking and talking.

I will say this, save often because when you miss evidence or say miss seraching for a knife it is a pain to go alllllll the way back to the beginning.

UPDATE - Okay I was a little wrong.....when you drive your motor vehicle and the sign appears for say Aspen Falls" "Lyntton Jail" and so forth you must STOP the motor vehicle from moving, and then click the hand button (or walk button) outside of the road picture. Don;t click the arrow on the road picture, cause it doesn't work.

If anyone else is having issues getting sound to work in DosBox, you need to replace the Soundblaster driver that came with the game. Download and extract http://www.sierraplanet.com/~ugarte/Resources/486SBDRV.EXE, and copy the two .DRV files over the Police Quest III directory. Fixed me right up. :)

If you're driving off the road and crashing within a couple of seconds of leaving the police station, you need DOSBox.

Assuming the game's running at a reasonable speed, you control the car by clicking just outside of it in that popup window that shows the road. As you move the cursor around you should see it turn into four different arrows -- up accelerates, down brakes and left and right turn.

Heya folks. Quick query, because I am as stuck as when sticky the stick insect got himself stuck on a sticky bun.

Basically, for the life of me, I can't draw the damn pentagram. I've tried every combination of locations possible...twice (ok, maybe an exageration), and I can't get past it. I even reffered to a walkthrough, followed it step by step but...nada.

Anyone have any hints? Suggestions? Saved games right after said pentagram?

Later when I show up for the court appearance I bring the calibration chart with me. However, (according to the walkthrough) the defence attoney is suppose to say "no further questions". Instead he said that I didn't put the correct time! Help :cry:

Hey all. Where the hell is 325 South 2nd Street? I get it's supposed to be on the corner of 2nd and Poppy but I get there and nothing happens. Either I stop the vehicle and get "there's no reason to get out here" or when I get to the intersection and stop I get "You can't leave your car in the intersection." I've driven all around (before there's been a popup with you get to where you need to be) but I get nothing.

Grimace - I have the same problem.

I wrote letters to a a few people, like the author of the PQ3 walkthrough, etc..., explained my problem, and asked for any help. The only thing I found out was that this is actually quite a common problem, and it's yet to be solved. It appears that sometimes the pentagram simply can't be drawn. If anybody else has a solution I'd love to hear it.

As for Mr. Funny - the only way I solved that problem was driving down both sides of the street stopping every copule of seconds and trying - takes a while but it gets you there.

I've installed dosbox, but everytime i leave the station i crash...i can manage to click on arrow to stop car, but even at 5mph on slowest game speed it's impossible to drive/ know whats coming....i love the PQ games...can somebody please tell me how to fix this!!! :(

Try giving it less cycles (or press Ctrl-F11 in game to slow DOSBox down a bit).

I've been trying to play PQ3 and got it all working except when I get the first call from dispatch. When I get everything I need and enter my police car the game freezes somewhat, the game wont load the driving sequence. I get the stop watch and can click on the top popup menu but i cant get out of the car or go to the next section

Oh the joys of driving in this game. Since my computer is too old for Dosbox (believe me) I'm using Turbo...still I wonder if that's what's causing this problem:
After I arrest the drunk driver and get back in the car, I start heading for the Police Station....only...the freeway is broken. As in, it's just stop sign after stop sign after stop sign...you get it. Is there a patch for this bug or what? I've searched online but so far nothing. :help:

I don't think it is caused by Turbo, because I also used Turbo when I played this game. I did not use DOSBox that time (I only found out about DOSBox recently since I joined Abandonia). I don't think there's a patch for the problem you mentioned. I can only suggest you redownload the game from here and restart playing.

I need help at the very end of the game. I'm in the crackhouse and I've just shot that 1 guy and cuffed Michael Bains, and then I grab the remote control from under the cushion and I open up the secret passage in the fireplace and go downstairs, but then I always get shot, no matter what I try to do. Can somebody please tell me what exactly I'm supposed to do at the end of the game? (please be detailed)

Oh and as for the pentagram thingy, if you're reading the online FAQ (I think there's only one of them), the addresses that he lists - one of them is off by 100 (I think it's the West Rose one but I'm not sure). After that, you can look at the map here http://www.geocities.com/sierra-a-rama/pq/pq3map.html, and connect all of your lines to the location shown as "Nugget Saloon" on that map. And make sure you connect all of your lines to each of the other points on the map. Hope this helps!

The same thing happened to me while playing it back then. I didn't draw my gun before entering the house, and by the time I did it was way too late. Only after trying for almost 30 minutes then I realized I had to draw the gun first :D

whoa!,solved it ;)

Started to mess with the DosBox config file (dosbox.conf), and tried different values for CYCLES.

Tried 4000. Worked.
Tried 5000. Worked.
Tried 6000. Worked.
Tried 7500. CRASHED.
Above: CRASHES

So, be sure to edit the file and change the line
cycles=6000
And make sure you have 6000 or below.

That way, when you enter the car, the game won't frezee (showing the clock icon indefinetively).

Whoa!, let's see if it continues working and I can get out of the police station without having the game crash :)

Hm. I think I'm stuck in the game because I missed a few things. When I had a look at the walkthrough I noticed there were things that I never encountered during the game... such as the highway action after the situation with the pregnant woman on the freeway, but nothing happened for me after that at all while driving. Also the second day Pat was supposed to have asked me to drive to the mall again and this time leave her bag in the car, never happened. I think because of this Im stuck now because im supposed to be doing something with Pat's issues now?? I'm at Day 6 and I need a warrant from court, but when I stop at the court it tells me i have no reason to be there. Do I have to start playing the game over again? :tai:

Hey everyone listen up I remember back when i played the game in about 1993 that i accidently deleted the version file out of the police quest 3 directory and though "ohhh know what have i done". I then ran the game and to my suprize the game was fine tough I now had a cool thing that I could do with the game, go ahead and try it. It will solve all your problems I promise the only effect it will have on the game is you want be able to restore your old save games so backup your version file before you delete and/or remove it from the police quest 3 directory :whistle: ohh yessss.....

Same to me too. I guess back at early 90's, Sierra didn't consider "dead-ends" (forgot to do something at earlier points makes it impossible to finish the game) to be a crime in adventure game. I don't have earlier savegames n have no wish to replay it again.

Looks like a bug to me. Many old Sierra games had speed problems today. Try find patch w/ search engine. Sorry, can't give link.

I've handed the judge the photo and news clipping, but the animation of the judge talking just keeps going and going and.... I'm using dosbox and have downloaded some patches, but I'm still stuck here. Does anyone know how to fix this or have a save file after this point? I hate to give up this close to the end! Thanks!

He's right. The CORRECT locations for the pentagram are:
280 West Palm
392 South 6th
341 East Rose
376 West Rose

And REMEMBER don't put points on the STREET. The murders didn't happen in the street. Do it on the blue boxes. Except 392 south 6th, put that juuuust touching the bottom street and 6th street.

Most of the stuff in there is not really needed, but you would do best to familiarize yourself with the specific topics I linked to.
The mounting of your DosBox games directory, switching the promt to the emulated C: drive and clearing the screen from previous commands can all be executed from the [autoexec] section of dosbox.conf (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=dosbox.conf), so you won't have to re-type them every time round.
Frontend programs (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=DOSBoxFrontends) can help running DosBox with varying configurations for different games.
For both a more accessible user interface and oldschool feel, you can use Norton Commander (get it from our programs and utilities page (http://www.abandonia.com/main.php?nav=programs) - scroll down to the bottom to find it). NC might seem awkward at first, but in fact it is a very functional genuine DOS era file manager frontend. It has a plethora of functions that will help you in navigating around the directories, while still retaining the command prompt.

Though all of this might seem complicated, it's very easy once you get used to it. So remember:

This bug only happens if you dont give locket to Marie in hospital, when you automatically drive there after visit at coroner. If you give the locket to Marie, she should wake up and the judge wont get stuck yapping.

I've played 1 and 2 and this one has got to be the worst. The driving alone makes me not want to play this game. I got the the first time you visit the crackhouse and have 0 desire to finish. :tai:

Also, to answer another post - thanks to how crappy the driving is I never pulled over the right guy or whoever so I never had to go to court and get the chance later to steal Pat's key but you can continue the game, just visit the hostpital.

I would appreciate if someone could help me out...I have just filled out the citation form 900 for Juan Ruiz and I take the ticket and ID from the computer, but when I go to get out of the car it tells me "You can't leave your car in the middle of an intersection." I can't do anything from here. If I try to start the car and leave it tells me "You must return the driver's ID first." But I can't do that if it won't let me out the car...I couldn't find anyone that had this same problem anywhere on the net. HELP PLEASE!
