OMG this was my favorite game when I was a kid. I remember being amazed by the 256 color graphics.
I will have to play this again.

I've been playing this this wonderful little game and have gotten to the last level of the bonus world. I can get all of the tokens except one and cannot figure out how to get that last one. Maybe you can tell me how to do it.
The one I am trying to get is where you climb up the rope and that fire breathing scorpion fires from the right to the left. There are also 2 bats there, one is flying around and the other just sits there. Down below there is a ladybug. There are 2 moving platforms, a conveyor belt, a button, and 2 light switches.
I think I have to be able to push the button below to move the platform that is blocking the token and then climb up and make my way across 2 or 3 of the blocks so that I fall down onto the right side. I don't seem to be able to jump onto any of those blocks though.
Any hints or suggestions are very welcome.

I you have arrived this far, then solving this souldn't be a problem!
I THINK you must try each of those 2 light switches and the button.
The button wont be difficult to press.
To power the left light switch, you can simply fall down (from first screen to second) and, as you fall, instanly fire the beam.
I think you can do that eve for second (right) light switch, but I don't think that's the solution. I think the solution is to climp up the rope up to the top, and then simply press right arrow key to arrive on that block on first screen. From that block you (just like before) fall down to the right screen on the conveior belt.....
Hope you get it, because if you didn't, I will have to play that game anew! LOL

Hello Hero,
Have done the 2 light switches, and the button. I can change the direction of the conveyor belt and move both of the blue platforms. I can land on the left side of the conveyor belt, but believe I need to land on the right side (once moving platform above it is moved left). That seems to be my problem.
Have repeatedly tried to move from rope to topmost block, but can't seem to do it. Even pulled in an expert to give it a try........my 16 year old son. (I believe teenage boys are the experts in gaming) He couldn't get it either.
So far I have played this part so many times that I can usually get to the end (this part) with all my sheilds and full energy and have memorized the symbols combination.
Don't want you to have to replay (way too much trouble) but if you have any notes that you may have taken and could look at I would appreciate it.

Tell me which of those three switches are for what operation (moving panel or changing the direction of conveyor belt).
If you can't get on topmost block, then try this:
- change the direction of conveyor belt (moving right) so you can arrive at the right side from the left side! Then shot at one of the light switches in order to move sliding panels that are blocking the way to puzzle piece. Then fire another lightbeam to change direction of conveyor belt and to return panel back to his position.
If even this doesn't work, then send me your savegame (all .dat files in your Ancient Empires game directory).

Just wanted to let you know I finally finished this game. Went on and did the expert level and got to fly away on the magic carpet. :Brain: Thanks a lot to Hero for all his time and patience.
They didn't have games like this when I was 19, sure wish they had. But I grew up in the pre-pong days, which obviously dates me as an old woman. Now to see if I can find other games like this one. I enjoyed this one very much. :ok:
Thanks again Hero!

For some reason I can't use my directional keys when anywhere besides in the main game. Basically, I can move my character but I can't choose different worlds, choose different options in the menu, or move the puzzle pieces (which means I can't get anywhere besides the first level of the first world). I'd love to be able to play this game again, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had similar problem. Don't know the solution, but this could work:
Run a game, if you can't move with your arrow keys, exit the game, and re-run it again. After few times, it should work (worked with me). :ok:
Thanks a lot to Hero for all his time and patience.
I was your Hero, I know. :max:
If you (or anyone else) need ANY help, just ask. :ok:

Well I only have one question. How do you complete the game?
I'm in the hidden temple and have all but one crystal - that's the last one I lack to finish the game.
Now I need a hero to help me... Can anyone help me?

I've been looking for the music from this game as well. The tracks for the Middle East are from Erik Satie's Gnossiennes Nos. 1 & 3. (If you were getting these, I'd recommend all six Gnossiennes, anyway)

I played all of the game except the very end, at which point I always died. I quit after redoing the last level over and over got too frustrating. I love the rest of the game, but I guess I'm getting to immersed in Prince of Persia right now to finish it.

GRRRRRRRRRR I'm sorry I give up. I can't work the directional controls. I did restart the game couple of times and it still didn't work. The only time arrow keys work is in the game except for the puzzle.

sorry because of my english but i'm spanish, i hope you all have understood everything.
to make work the directional controls you must take off the bloq num key (the key which is in the upper left corner at the numerical key board).
a last thing: someone knows who do in the last level, where the scorpion, the bats....
thanks!!

I figured it out last night! You have to double shift i.e. hold down both shift keys on the left and right hand side of your laptop and then move the arrow keys. The left key still does not work but you can move up, down and right! :brain:

Try putting on CAPS LOCK and using the arrow keys. If does not work try CAPS LOCK on AND pressing left or right shift key. :brain: :brain: :brain:

Hi, I need help on Ancient World chamber 2, expert level. This is the level where you start in a room with an ant and you have to hit gongs to remove a barrier to get to the conveyor belts on the lower part of the start screen (I'm past the ant, gongs and belt, by the way).
My problem is on a screen one down and two to the right of the start screen. I get there by sneaking past the fire-shooting scorpion that has an apple behind him (scorpion is actually on the screen immediately to left of my problem area). Anyway, on the lower left side of this screen is a light switch and a head switch side by side in a sort of shelf. I can zap the light, but the shelf is in the way of my hitting the head switch. The light switch moves a vertical wall standing between a pair of treadmills in the upper half of the screen, and I suspect that the head switch reverses the treadmill on the lower right, which has an ant-lion (the big pink-and-green spider) on it. I can't get past this treadmill/spider thing.
Any hints/ tips? Do I have to hit that head switch, or is there another way of passing that spider? Thanks.

Okay, I managed to solve the problem in Ancient World chamber 2-expert. Yes, it was that head-switch that changes the direction of the treadmill. It's very difficult, but can be hit using the power-shoes.
The ant-lion rushes after you after hitting the button, so you'd better be ready for a quick exit.
***Good tip: some creatures can me stunned (made immobile for a few seconds) by your light beam.

Just drag the AEPROG.EXE file onto the DOSBox icon in Windows Explorer and wait for a
message to pop up that says something like "Open with DOSBox" (the exact wording may differ from computer to computer) This trick is MUCH easier than having to mount folders every time.

I really loved this game. It was one of the first that I had on the PC when I was 14 years old. Wow. It seems that the new generation is getting more and more precocious in knowledge and technology!
I liked many of the puzzles and the challenge of protecting myself, attacking to avoid the hostile creatures. A curious thing about the game is that when you try to solve the puzzle and need to shine the light from your mining helmet, it reminds me of the puzzles of the not-so-known LaserTank game. And that light from your mining helmet can paralyze hostile creatures like spiders, ants, and winged toads.
I even became an expert and knew the tricks to avoid losing life energy. Well, if I were to play now, would I be able to leave unscathed until the end of the game? Who knows?
I suppose this game is the best in the Super Solvers series?
