Master of Orion was one of the trully great games of its time but it has sadly been overshadowed by far better games after it. I would like to see Master of Orion II (DOS version) on abandonia but I doubt it is abandonware already.

not here I'd say, since neither is AW AFAIK. just buy them, you can pick up HoMM 3 cheap, and there's no point in getting 2 if you have 3. 4 is also worth a try, although i know a lot of people who hated it even if they liked the previous ones.

I actually bought HOMM3 in a Croatian store, it was platinum edition(game + all the expansions), and it cost me around 13-15$, maybe you can find them in some shops with some luck, or use Ebay...
Titan

I got the Platinum also, and it's still retailing around 15€ here.
Not much to argue about.
Selling @ Ebay for 0,99 $ atm. Make a bid! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8176547206)

I think the point of the last 4 or 5 posts was to establish that no, it's not.

Is it sold anywhere?

10-03-2005, 10:52 AM
And why do you think it is not considered ABW, huh? Because Kosta said so?
NOPE.
They are still sold. You want them? Then BUY them.
Coodie, look around the computer stores. Recently I found some good discount versions of HOM&M 1+2 (in a double-pack) and HOM&M 3 as well.
With some luck...
Also consider putting up and ado in the "buy" or "trading" section of some newspaper around.
Last but not least, ask your friends. Maybe one of them has the games and would sell them to you for a good price.

Tom Henrik

I don't know if it is sold or not, but it is a 1997 game by an ESA subsidiary. As such the earliest this game can be deemed abandoned by our conditions is at least 2 years from now.
The Fifth Horseman
02-10-2006, 11:31 AM
Also, there is a huge chance HOM&M II is still sold.

My brother bought me the Heroes of Might and magic Platinum Edition in 2002 (I think it was) for christmas. He brought it to university last year and I couldn't find it again... well he found it and I now have it in front of me. I made an ISO image and RIP of Heroes of Might and Magic 2 gold and I was wondering if it was alright to be put up on this site. I looked in the oldwarez list and it is not listed, only the first HOMM is there. I searched google and found a site that had it in a different format which was not for normal pcs (RiscPC/A7000 Machines). Amazon had it, but it was the Platinum edition selling for $149.99 and it was used. 3DO doesn't exist and I couldn't find it at New World Computing selling it either. The places only sold used copies which means it's technicaly abandoned right? Well anyways if an abandware veteran could please clerify this situation, it would be greatly appreciated. If its a go, I can upload and I will have no problems reviewing it as I have the original copy and I loved this game for 2 summers straight! Thanks

The problem is, that it's beeing sold in the Platinum-box AND i saw it last week as a retail.. budget release for 5€, but stillsold unfortunally... :(
Saw it at a local supermarket, but i guess that counts :wallbash:
Tom?
Tom Henrik

Added it to the AW List now :ok:
The GOLD release is just a compilation of the HOMM 2 game along with it's add-on The Price of Loyalty. Both of these games were released in 1997 by ESA subsidiaries. As such they are both currently protected.
The gold version was released in 1998, and (had it contained something apart from just the game and it's add-on - like completely new missions or graphic) the game would have been protected for one year longer.

Who owns the copyrights? the ESA subsidiaries? New world computing?
velik_m
25-10-2006, 07:15 AM
Ubisoft
Tom Henrik
25-10-2006, 11:28 AM
New World Computing was aquired by The 3DO Company (previously known as SMSG, Inc.) - which was a joint operation of several huge companies, including Time Warner Interactive and Electronic Arts. But in 2003, after a series of downfalls and lack of proper management, The 3DO Company filed for bankruptcy. Their assest were scattered and sold to Microsoft, Namco, Crave and Ubi Soft.
So, as you can see. There are several ESA members that now own the rights for 3DO's games - and also New World Computing
Burger Meister
25-10-2006, 09:33 PM
Darn, too bad. Maybe some year soon the protection will be taken away and we'll be free to distribute it.
The Fifth Horseman
26-10-2006, 08:31 AM
I wouldn't count on that anywhere before 2008 at least.
Also, as long as the game will be sold, either on its own or bundled with the other games from Heroes series, it will not be a viable addition to the site.

i spent with homam2 months. Graphics are simply wonderful, but main is that game is more addictive than illegal drugs... 'Mama, I just finish this mission and I go to bed'
...9 hours later...
'You woke up sooner to play the stupid game?!'
'Umm, no, actually I forgot the time and...'

Actually, HOM&M 2 (Gold version, IIRC) was sold in a bundle-pack with HOM&M 1 some time ago, under "eXtra Gra" label. Bought it a year and something ago.
bobson

I bought it :brain:
Not only HOMM II, but a compilation called:
"Saga of Heroes Of Might And Magic I - III"
it contains: Heroes Of Might And Magic I
Heroes Of Might And Magic II - The Succession Wars
Heroes Of Might And Magic II - Price Of Loyalty
Heroes Of Might And Magic III - Restoration Of Erathia
Heroes Of Might And Magic III - Armageddon's Blade
Heroes Of Might And Magic III - The Shadow Of Death
I have already completed III ROE, and III SOD before buying this, but still there is a lot of hours to play.
I got all I need in this compilation. I didn't like the fourth part, and the fifth Heroes won't run on my computer.
"Hey, boss, can I play Heroes, while I'm at work? "
"What?"
"Fired?"
Hmm ... Now i got my vacation ^_^

In Poland ... :bleh:
check this link (http://www.gram.pl/gra.asp?id=826)
but as far as I know all of this games are translated to polish as the page itself.
Tom Henrik
17-12-2006, 07:08 PM
Well, the screens look English to me. Does this store ship to the rest of the world, or is it Poland only?
bobson
17-12-2006, 09:30 PM
I played Heroes II & III from this compilation and I'm sure - there is no possibility to play it in English ...
If you want to learn my language I can check if they ship the games outside Poland.
I believe that somewhere on the net You can buy something similar
Tom Henrik
18-12-2006, 11:55 AM
Alrighty. I believe you :P
Guess the HOMM series won't get a buy link, then. Not many people worldwide would be able to enjoy a Polish translated game.
The Fifth Horseman
18-12-2006, 01:11 PM
I second the info.
"CD Projekt" always makes complete translations with no option for original language (which is both good and bad thing, depending on your POV).

Full CD images (in BIN/CUE format in this case, since the discs contain audio tracks) belong into ISO Cellar.
What we do need for hosting the game on AB are CD-Rips of suitable size.
Also, we might be able to throw in to as an extra the semi-official map pack "Desecrated Lands". It was occasionally sold with some versions of the main game, however the CD says...
All .mp2 files found in 'ORIGINAL' directory are
copyright 1997 (c) Dark Entertainment. All rights
reserved.
The are being released through East Valley Software
as freeware. They may be used for non-commercial,
non-distribution purposes or submitted through the
net without prior written consent.
The remaining maps in the pack as well as two cheat tools therein are all fan-made content gathered by the publisher from the net - so it's 100% OK to go with the game when that's updated. :D

Isn't it abandonware already? It's been more than 15 years...To quote Abandonia's Definition of Abandonware (http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showpost.php?p=340837&postcount=2), which I highly recommend you read:
Age alone IS NOT a defining factor, period. Also, as the game is sold by GOG.com (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/heroes_of_might_and_magic_2_gold_edition), we already have it labeled (http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showpost.php?p=380185&postcount=66) as an invalid request. In case you're wondering "GoG's version doesn't count! It's the gold edition of the game!", the gold edition of Heroes of Might and Magic 2 includes both the original game and its expansion. As such, it counts as a compilation, thus meaning that all games and expansions included within are considered sold.
