Nice upload!!
Until now I hadn't noticed that the other version was older than the one (RRT Deluxe) I used to play.
It's a pity though that the African and South American map were so scarcely populated and industrialized that -at least for me- they were never as interesting as the other maps, it took so much longer to get a decent cash flow.
I've seen that no one mentioned any tips to take over other railroads' stations in the other RRT topic, so I'll add my $0.02 worth:
in order to win the war for one of those stations, I always connected it to a station/depot/... as close as possible; then I bought some additional trains and let them shuttle between the two, thus minimizing their travelling time.
I guess that's how most people do it, but it couldn't hurt to post it here I guess.
You guys are awesome. Seriously love this site and the reviews are really good(doesn't matter if the english/grammar isn't all correct...its easy to understand anyway hehe) and all the games you guys add are quality. I only got told about this site recently and without a doubt is now my favourite site, mainly due to the fact you guys solve all the XP compatability issues and errors(My homepage now too). Yeah so anyway this isn't a game-related post really but i just thought i'd say that anyway :D
p.s Railroad Tycoon Rocks.

I didn't like this one as much because it was missing my favorite map.

I played the older version 5 years ago. I've Played it again. And the deluxe. I am ADDICTED to both. The newer version has better sound and more challenges. I think they bothe need a 5. Few games are this much fun after so many years.
shift d = double track
shift s = single track (convert from Double)
hold shift to lay track or release Num Lock = build track

If a train can hold 6 cars then it is intended for 2-3 cars for best profit. In other words double up!!!
Oh and when u get past a certain point, your trains will take on a new skin. this skin will make it so you can't add more than 6 items of cargo at a time.

hey, how do you change the cargo of a train after the train is in service.

Click on the train (in the little box on the right side of the screen). You'll get its route and the carts it's transporting - just like in the beginning.

how do you install it says install from floppy but i have no floppy.
Sebatianos

You don't have to install!!!
Like with almost every other game on Abandonia, you simply need to download, extract and PLAY!
I downloaded the game but I am unable to get to the broker screen. I click on F9 but nothing comes up. Is anyone else running into this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Did you freeze the game (stopped it - with the game speed option)? You don't go to that screen - you call the broker, and in some time that screen opens (usually really fast), but if you stopped the game it won't apeare.

Does each screen load block-by-block for everyone else too? That's reeeeeally annoying and I just can't play it (I play the original rrt all the time without trouble). Is it meant to do that?

Hi,
Does deluxe have the station limit like rrt? I had a nice railroad running when I hit the station limit in rrt....bummer. I'd hate to invest time on this version and have the same thing happen.

I believe it does have the same bugs as the original. This really taints the game for me, although I'm sure theres a patch somewhere that fixes the money and station limit however I can't find it

Anyone know how to build the tracks diagonally?
I was pressing Shift + F7, F9, F1, F3 etc. But it wouldn't build. So I can only build up/down or across.
Sebatianos

Just shift + 7, 9, 1, 3 (on the numeric keys - the right side).

My bad, I meant I was already using shift + 7,9,1,3. I don't know why I typed F7,9,1,3.
But anyway, I was using the numeric keys on the right with shift and they still don't work. Any idea why?

Hm, wait, have you tried the numeric keys (with num lock on) but without pressing shift?

Tried:
Shift + Numeric keys with Num lock on and off.
Numeric keys without shift with num lock on and off.

My god you're right!
I just figured out the answer as well - use the SHIFT+HOME (up left) SHIFT+PG UP (up right) SHIFT+PG DNW (down right) and SHIFT+END (downl left).

Thanks Sebatianos, finally I can build diagonally!
You don't need another file. Download dosbox from the link in the trobleshooting "look here first" thread.
Once you got it, open the railroad Tycoon folder, and drag the RRT file into Dosbox to start.

No prob - sorry it took me so long.
@krat12:
You don't need to set anything up.
Download the game - unzip (extract) and play. The file is RAILSDX.BAT and it works in Windows too!

I think he meant Reference Sheets of some kind.
I'm disappointed the review didn't mention the REAL enhancements made to the game: You can have a lot more trains than in the original. In the original you quickly run into hard-coded limits within the game. Also if I remember correctly the original version limits the amount of money to some 32 million.

Sometimes I see competitors having more than two rails coming out of their stations. How do I do that?

When you are setting up the railway station you will see some small numbers on that small picture of station. they tell you how many railways will be built on that station. you can have up to 4 on one station. if you want to have more trains on same railroad you will need to build traffic lights and syncronise them propperly so that trains will avoid eachother instead of collide with eachother.

You need to answer the question in the begining (about the engine) correctly. I did add the reference sheat to the extras when I updated the game, should still be there.

I love the africa and south america maps - not only because they add something new to tho original which i played endlessy, but also because it can be an advantage to have sparse population and little industry - it becomes more important to pick one of the few places with good potential to start!

Did anyone find these cards. They are the ones referred to in the manual. They contain info on resource distribution for each continent as well as the resource conversion processes Coal > Steel > Mnfd. Goods etc.
Grateful for any help

The most interesting challenge was trying to identify the train at the beginning... No, I'm just kidding. I loved the Africa map - I got a link going between Johannesburg and Mafikeng, and sometimes went as far south as Bloemfontein, laughing at the incorrect spelling all the way. Strange that there was no gold, or diamond deposit near Kimberley, but I soon got the hang of starting small and running just mail and passenger coaches, until I could get a copper line going. It even had my home town. I can't wait to get my computer fixed! Kudos to you, Abandonia, for being one of the best sites ever. :bleh:

I am uploading the reference cards to this great game in English. These are the original cards. They are .jpegs (listed as QuickTime! [how olde canyou get, really!!]) but of course they can be accessed with any program and formatted to your particular tastes. I like .png myself.
Its been quite awhile since I logged on here and I was pleasantly surprised by your new appearance and the trove of "new" games. It's great. Keep up the fabulous work.

I loved this game when it first came out and I was happy to find it here, but there are a couple of annoying problems I'm having with it.
1. It is so abominably slow. Is there a way to increase the speed in Dosbox?
2 When I do full screen in Dosbox, the page skews/shifts about a half inch to the left, cutting off some info. It's not a big problem on RRT but I'd like to know if there's a fix.
I was delighted to find this site. So many games I remember playing and enjoying.

1- Nominal speed on DOSBox depend of your computer speed. If you have a multi-threaded core then DOSBox only use one of your cores. The best you can do to increase the speed is to play with the cycles a little and maybe with the other graphical options too.
2- That is most probably because either your screen can't take that resolution or because you simply need to adjust that particular resolution in your screen options. For a reason beyond myself, some screen have separate option setting for each resolution and sometimes the default setting is way off. If this is the case then moving the screen back in shape should not interfere with other kind of resolution.

In DOSBox.conf
fullresolution=set this to your desktop resolution
output=ddraw

Try to press Autoconfig button on your monitor. I had the same problem while running dosbox for the first time.

Does anyone have a reference list for the engines in RRT deluxe, with speed, horsepower, and year available?

One would think that the deluxe version was a decent improvement to the regular version.. But I don't think so.. Quickly went back to the original.
My main issue was the graphics. Each time I scroll in the deluxe version I sit around and see the screen paint itself layer by layer. The original game painted its graphics much smoother.
Also, the improved resolution does not seem to let you see anything more. They have just made grainier bitmaps using more pixels. I actually like the graphics of the original better too.
Really like the game though. The way one automize the trains and build tracks is great. Never liked the transport tycoon bits, adding all sorts of other boring transports. :)

I must have played this game for months worth of hours. It is actually still one of the best railroad-management games around.
I would pay a decent amount of money for a remake just like this one, not rrt2 or rrt3 (which were also good games) but a new top-down railroad management game with updated graphics, smooth zooming but keeping the top-down graphics, nice buildings, nice terrains, but not into the street-level zoom-level detail.
I would do it myself if I had somebody that could help me with the 3D models for the graphics. If someone here is capable of doing that, let me know! dirk A@T frixx-it D@T com
