I have a German version of this game, its playable at XP.
I downloaded it at minigames.de or so.
But i dont get, how to produce my own shows.

this version is english/german. it runs under XP, but as usually without sound. VDMS works fine except for the mouse controls, wich isn't supported. you are able to play the whole game using the keyboard controls, but that isn't very funny...

get a studio (top floors, real estate agent, and thats if ya already sold the startin one, or ya need bigger one for the show - and watch out for the expences, yep, thats a daily charge)
get a script (screenplayin agency)
go to yer studio, put the script on the table(duh), get a shoppin list from the chief
go to the supermarket, buy stuff for yer brand new script (nope, not the Betty-gifts section, the other one)
get back to yer studio-chief (ya can ask the dude there about the quality of the show)
start production

I use mousectl.com (or mousectl.exe) to run the game.
Google for "mousectl", download the file from somewhere, copy it to the directory MadTV is "installed" and then create a batch file that reads as follows:
mousectl 5,10
mtv.exe
You can play with the parameters a little. I never really understood for what those values are, but they work nicely here. :-)

You don't have to click or drag it. After you asked for it, you have it.
Just go to the supermarket. That's the room to the right on the first floor. There you can buy stuff for your production.

Did you put the show concept (the box on the right in your suitcase) down to the table on your right?
What did the producer say after you asked him for the shopping list?

Since I work in TV, this game is a brilliant example of why I never plan to work for a major network. Ever. OK, maybe if they pay me enough. Maybe.

Anyway, awesome game, even if I tend to go overboard spending my money on trying to produce in-house material. One problem: every time I finish production of a show and try to move it into the schedule, it crashes! I'm running it under DOSBOX; would that cause the crash?

Has anybody ever come across the bug where you get a few hundred million dollars? I came across it once while playing, don't know how it happened exactly, but I remember it had to do with the screen where you buy and sell TV satellites and transmitters... I would get a screenshot of my money, but I can't quite seem to find where my game is.

Also, anybody who likes the game should take a look at the remake that some german guy is making. It is still in the beta stages, but its slowly getting there. It also comes with an editor, so you can create your own things like movies that you can purchase for your station.

Well i have an 233 MMX procesor and i hate remakes.
While some of them are beter than the original they usualy have stupid requirements.
sometimes i can't understand where all that power goes and why my PC witch could run "INCOMING" can't run some third water remake of "Tetris" :ranting:
Its understandable when the game has superb Audio/Video.
But mostly they just mipmap the picsel's amd Quadriple the Min requirements.
Of course i wish luck to the remakers of old games but they should look how the game is runing on slower PS's

If you have a great negative amount of money, the - (the hyphen) won't fit and voila: -20317532 will turn into 20317532 You can do this by buying and selling your studio.

I also remeber, when I was once in the library, the man in glasses turned green and I could see his snake tongue. Does anyone know how to make him like that?

He does that almost every time I click on him while reviewing my tape library. Maybe it's just random?

Re: my earlier post, the bug only seems to happen with the music video show; "Talk for Two" went into the lineup without crashing (and earned me a record-setting .85mil viewers, thereby saving my ad contracts!).

After beating the game in hard difficulty and owning both satellites with billions of cash in the end, I want to give out some tips:

Dosbox seems to crash MadTV more often when the speed is very high. I accidentally found out that with only 5000 cycles (instead of 15000 I use to run Dosbox normally) it stopped crashing.

Self-made TV-shows are mostly buggy, those with block-size of 0 (hours) are the ones that cause sudden crashes. For now ignore the shows with 0 block-time as they can't be aired on TV.

Other than that no spoilers, but good luck in searching the mechanics of MadTV. :=)

For all those looking to have a very nice and very clean cheat for this game, I found a trainer for it. It's an old DOS trainer (only 232 byes long!!!!), which I found at a german cheat website, couldn't remember where, but spent half an hour translating websites :P

You NEED DOSBOX to run it. Open DosBox, type MADTVTRN.COM to get it a TSR and then type MTV toload the game.

I´m playing MTV in Dosbox and its day 17. at 1700, after visiting Mr. Raffer, Im trying to go to the news room but when i´m in there, the gme freezes.
Even when i´m waiting til the next day.

Nope, this is a well known problem for many fans. Sometimes it crashes after 10 days, sometimes after 30 days. No one has got any solutions on this yet. Maybe you should install the latest version of DOSBox (0.63)

Did you already see the bug, that you can "buy phantom" movies at the film shop?
Go to the Corner in the lower right, there are No Name Movies.
Sell these to the Film Shop Customer. You have to buy one movie for every sold "phantom" movie. But you can make big plus with that.

For the dude who couldn't get the shopping list done, I've encountered the same problem and managed to solve it. So, hopefully it works for you too.

First, place the screenplay you bought on the triangular brown table on the lower-right corner of the Studio (it must be large enough). Click on the guy, then choose New Shopping List. A small icon appears to the right. ** DO NOT do anything else ** Just exit the room.

If you have even clicked anywhere near the options, he would say something like "Only one episode can be produced" and then you cannot get the shopping list.

You can now go to the supermarket.

I play MadTV (again) since a few days with MouseCTL and VDMS under XP, but after some time, there are more and more bugs, and finally the game crashes. And the game also crashes each time, when I produce a cinema show (I don't know the English title) and want to take it into the program guide. Has anyone made the same experience or is aware of the reason? Thank you all for your help.

What an incredible game. The funny thing is that before I played this game for the first time (ten years ago, the least) I was just fresh out of Valhalla (Ragnarok) and I ACCIDENTALLY pressed J and Archie turned into a Draugr (this really tough green monster that killed me thousands of times until I became wise enough to use a switch bodies scroll on him and went straight to bifrost). I laughed my behind of for days. Anyway...

I have a couple of money cheats for this game.

1) Go to the Real State office and give away your studio. Then rent it again. Then release it again. Etc etc... You will have each time a bigger debt. But once your display runs out of digits, the negative becomes positive and you're stinking rich. Caution: Somewhere in the middle you have to leave the renting board or the game will crash. It also gives you the chance to see how your real state guy likes the change.

2) You can kinda cheat with the money you owe to the boss. Finish a day and start a new one with a negative over 50. Like for example -167. Then go to the boss and tell him you want to repay. How much? Everything. Your money will go from -167 to -17. However, your debt with the boss will increase.

I have no troubles with playing MAD TV. I´m playing it on PII-333,32 MB RAM,S3 Trio 3d card with W95 and it is allright.I´m playing 74 days already and nothing like crashing the game or being kicked from my job didn´t apear. I don´t know why, but it´s a fine for me, after reading your problems :D

PS: Sry for my bad english but I´m from central europe (czech), so don´t be mad! :D

Some years ago, I tried it under an windows and it never worked, however :cry: :ranting: I tried it one time a year but for several years. I believe that this is one of the best games ever made - it is very jokingly and I still loughing about thinking of some headlines.

However, I'm using dosbox 0.63 under linux and it unfortunately crash from time to time. I hope the (free) remake http://www.tvgigant.de/index.php?content=main&lang=english will be finished soon, so I will be able to enjoy it even more - maybe even with a multiplayer-feature via web? :)

Man it's been quite a while since i played this - but i really loved it at that time :D
But now i'm having some troubles with the difficulty even with EASY!
I had to cheat some money to buy satellites so i can buy some decent advertising contracts. And i'm really pissed now because the game freezes after a few moments or even instantly in the advertising agency -_-
Guess i'll have to save quite more often or leave the advertisings complety out of my TV program.
Anyway when it runs well, i can really say it's a cool game :w00t: but Mad TV2 isn't that great, i bought it and smashed it after 2 hours :whistle:
And YES a Multiplayer-Option would be great!!

I did have that bug as well, you better just don't buy or try out to produce shows with 0 blocks - it's a shame that it's so damn buggy :tai:

Running any DOS games on my Asus P4S800 with Pent4 2.4 Gh(B) under WinXP causes the game to immediate crash. When I tried to play on older PC (my lil' sister's PC actually) which is an IBM -dont know the type- with a Pent3 1Gh, all games run smoothly.
I do try various version of DOSBox but some games are too slow even I press Ctrl-F12 several times. The only games that work smooth under my P4 + DOSBox are those VOG made under '90 such AlleyCat, Digger, Digdug -best is Bouncingbabies that the speed can be adjusted.
And all the sudden I just remember that it might be this Hyperthreading facility on my processor. I deact it through the BIOS and voila!! Everything is running normal whether I play it straight under XP or emulate it by DOSBox.
Does this problem occur to you guys? Any explaination?
These DOS games are soo cool and also free (right?). Here in Indonesia everything are so pirated! I wont use any pirated software anymore due to new term to moslem that pirated software is not halal.
Anyone try to remake (recode+retitling) these old game on various style will get my support. Build it on Flash, Java, or even certain SDK isnt bad idea especially when you can bring it to handheld and the users can play together via blutooth/WiFi and by that, they can get additional gameplay just like GameBoy's Pokemon.

To make some rooms free, wait for the a bomb attack being planned, you will know it for the political notes. Then, go for the board and change the name of the ambassy and the name of a useless room (weapons dealer, for example). After the attack, the room is free for rent. For the right side of the building, greater rooms.

There are 2 (if no more) remakes of Mad Tv 1 being done. One of them you will see at the site www.tvgigant.de, and the other I dont remember, see the page of retro remakes for it.

It seems to happen often at 12-15 day, and I tested some things, but discover nothing. I dont know why, but, I say you, it worked well under Windows 98. If you could, play it under w98. :crazy:

Sorry, but it will not work...

Curious, I think I discover something... some conditions rise the probability of crash... In fact, using a lower number of cpu cycles (in dosbox, I have used 1735), the game dont crashed in a moment the problem had occur. I realized the game problem appear more often if you use higher numbers of cpu cycles (someone already said that, too).

And there are several crashes in time 17:05 when the previous day ended in a low speed (of the game menu, with the red cars). When you put the speed in fast before the day end, game dont crashes.

The game had also a problem with shows of 0 blocks, this is fact. I also realized problems (more frequently) with the supermarket and with the films auction, with some of the series, too (those had names of the episodes replaced by numbers, 7395, for example). I think, if you play with lower values of cycles, and dont expose the game to some situations, it will be playable. I want us all putting here more knowledge about the game problems... Maybe we could realize all of them, making the gaming better.

One more thing: the game can show the source of some problems, i think. You never asked yourself why some actors have name and some additional information, and others only "not set"?? Had that version of game been modified by someone?? I doubt thats an error of the company... How can we correct that?? If we could correct that, maybe could also correct other bugs, couldnt we?? Other propably correctible error: shows 0 blocks...

And a suggestion... download the game again. Lets try find a more playable version, huh??

Im convinced this version is a beta. I downloaded another version in the home of the underdogs, and there are differences. Its a little bigger, and tons of files are replaced by only six. I played it, and...

Good news: :Brain:
Its almost bug free... no more problems in the supermarket, no more shows 0 blocks, no more crashes in the beginning of a new day. And I finished other stations in day 11, and Im now in day 23!! Im not fired!! You can manage the TV forever... yes!! :Brain:

Bad news: :blink:
Some programs are different. Specially the Culture Today. Its no more a serie... You need buy each program (22k!!), and now its a constant 0 audience... Ok, I always thought a great bargain so much blocks by 11K. Tucker is more expensive, too... ha!! Its the same for Robin Hood, Naked Gun... Well... ok.
Second, you will stay as a small station for more time. Its necessary a 50+ image for contracts of 2.5 millions!!
And the worst... the current bar of the movies grows very much slower. Thats more realistic, but the AI dont manage it very well... They broadcast same programs, and again, again, and get 3% ratings. In difficult level they last only 8 and 11 days. In other words: the game was easy, but now the challenge is 0. Well, some people didnt like the level of the game, right??

Veredict:
If you want a challenge, play first days of this "beta" version, until the game crashes. If you want no challenge, only manage your tv station, download the version avaliable in the home of the underdogs. And I want some feedback about this, please.

Simple question, friend... I hope you are liking your initial steps in this great game.

To sell a movie, go to the archive (the room right of your boss office), click in the guy, select the type of the movie you are wanting to sell, pick the movie and put it in the bag. Then go to the movie agency and return it to Mr. Jabble. If the movie was broadcasted recently it will receive a lower price...

If the game starts to crash later, go to underdogs and download the version they have there... But dont tell I told you :ok:

As fas as I knew the Abandonia version has some bugs fixed but nevermind. I loved this game since the first time I got it. At the start it was very hard to play it, I couldn`t complete 3 days and I ended up with a bankrupt witch pissed me off but oh, well, I was too lazy to read a FAQ. ^^

i beat this game way back when it first came out, the thing that helped me most was buying a second broadcasting tower from my first initial money... makes everything a whole lot easier... there are 1 or 2 locations on the map where you can get 4 mio new viewers but only have to pay 100k instead of the usual 250k... they are like in souther usa, like texas, down there somewhere...

anyyyyways i have a few questions myself... anyone know what all the rooms are for, like the peace brothers or the two duban rooms or the psych room or the two tobacco rooms---?!?
do those do anything or are they just there...?!?

You have to watch the contents of the news.
There's two different kinds of ambassies of "Duban". These are attacked regularly.
If an attack is announced, an arabian lookin guy will come to the MadTV building an set a bomb.
NOW:
The sense in this is, that you go to the ground floor and switch the sign of an embassy with one of your wish.
If you still have opponents to beat, a bomb in their movie archieve comes in quite handy. :whistling: And you don't even get your hands dirty. :sneaky:

If you're not running it in DOSBox, try ctrl-x or ctrl-q, or you could try alt-TAB to minimize the game screen and close it in the task bar.

Sometimes this happens... Mainly in this buggy version.

As I said before, try download it in the Home of the Underdogs. Their version is almost bug free.

Of course, you will need restart the game (cant use the save), but you will like it ^_^

Oh My God, it was so ******* difficult to find this thread... ******* FORUM SEARCH! I had to go through all 20 Pages of the games discussion, madly looking for Mad TV... just because the discussion isn't linked any more from the game page and because the ******* fourm search doesn't permit searches for words with less than four characters (guess what... Mad has THREE characters) and searching "Mad TV" didn't work, too. And every time you want to *SEARCH* as a guest you have to write down those ******* 6 characters...

Yes, definitely. The version I got, which is probably identical to the HOTU version, seems to have fewer bugs than the version that is found all over the net and on abandonia. Some others should test it, though.

Addition: Maybe mousectl.com and a batch file that first starts mousectl and then madtv should be included for better XP compatiblity? (with mousectl.com and such a batchfile, the mouse can be used for madtv unter winXP)

I AM using Dosbox. The bugs in the abandonia version (which seems to be sort of a beta, because it has a load of files and lacks the Rainbow Arts copyright notice present in the HOTU version) appear on Dosbox, I haven't played much directly on XP, but encountered some bugs that appear on DosBox, too.

BTW: since other players also detected these bugs (again, see earlier posts in this thread) it isn't very likely that they are related to my PC.

I started to play this game again yesterday. I have some crushing issues to, mainly at the infoboard - and at the market sometimes , when hiring staff for productions.

My questions is image problem, if you use same movies etc again it drops quickly, how can we increase it...?

You mean the "current" bar on movies? Yeah I don't think there's a way to speed that recovery up - Either wait a few days, or sell it back to the movie broker and get a different one. Ideally I wait a few days for it to recover a bit before selling it back to make a little more money, but in the 1st day or 2 it can't be helped...

In order to increase your image you must have the highest ranking during an hour (in %, not absolute audience). When you show a movie, the current bar will drop, and the lower the bar, the less people that will watch your movie, and your image will drop. You have to show different movies until the current bar is full.

We have lots of tips. But we need details to be able to help you run the game. First and most important question are you using Dosbox, if not download it and use that to run the game. If you need help running Dosbox there are threads in the forums that will help you and videos on our Youtube page.

I have recently tried the Amiga version and it is just the same as the stable PC version with weak AI.
This is too bad, we have a version with competitive AI which always crashes (the one with tons of files) and a version with weak AI that is stable but pointless for more than a few hours (amiga and the pc one with SOURCE1.RSC).
Somewhere else I read that the only reason the AI is more competitive in the buggy one is that films recharge actuality faster there, so the AI does not get low image when they always resend the same crap, as they usually do.
This sounds like a small mod for the stable version, but I have no clue about modding or programming,so maybe it is not.

This is a GREAT Game, Ive played it for years... And well, apparently some get into a lot of trouble to make it.

IF YOU WANT TO LEARN BY YOURSELF DONT READ THIS :


1 BUY extra broadcasting whatevers ( In your office to the right ) , buy at leas 1 in the begining of the game. You should pay 100 K for a 3.9 millon station. Buy more as soon as you can.
2 I play dificult , I get 200 K at the begining and the FIRST day I buy a couple of comedy or action movie for 40 to 55 K and get a broadcasting extra 100K thing. That doubles my rating and I make some money with the " La Baguette " 1 spot thing and some other on that value. The second day I ask for a loan from the Boss for another 100 ( He does not give you another 200 .

3 Sell the movies at the begining but further along DONT. They regenerate novelty lets call it after 3 days approx .

4 Movies dont do the same rating on every hour. Commedies get better ratings in the afternoon. Series in the first 2 slots. Action in the 3rd slot . If I remember correctly Whodonit its for the early afternoon also. Experiment with this but the multiplier of rating has to do a lot with the kind of movie you play and the Time of the day.

5 Keep buying coverage all the Time. Dont return the money way after you got your first millon in your bank.

7 There is actually a spot called BP, slogan " WE GET YOU THERE " there its to me, to the wealthy people. This guys ask for 2 ad, in a LOVE and only LOVE movie. The thing is that the rating they ask is not so much if you have like 3 Broadcasting extra things. When the rating they ask is under 23 % of your audience , FIRST look for a good Love movie and get the 700 K in 2 spots. Actually I got it with Rebel without a Cause, in the 3rd and 4th slot ( Movie is 3 blocks if I remember correctly. )But for that you need to need less that 20 % to be sure.

8 Remember , image has to do with rating. The one with more rating in percentage gets an extra 1 % in image, the one with less image in an hour. Gets 1 % minus, and the one in the middle gets no change. The acumulation of this gets you to 70 % of image and gets into bankrupcy the other guys. In the long run , but watch it in the begining. If you buy enough broadcasting things you can play 70 K movies but, will get you in your botticks with the Image thing, so balance yourself with the getting movies over 100 K and buying broadcasting things. Thats the big TIP . Try to play comedies over a 100 K quick but try to buy a broadcasting thing of 100K every 2 days.

DONT produce own shows, care about sammy, buy things for the girl, or buy news for the first 5 days AT LEAST. Its not worth it.

With BP, buying coverage and aggressively reselling movies you just broadcasted it is possible to buy the satellites on day 3 and 4. To start, you need the Whodunit movie "Rear Window" and fill its 3 spots with Nipponix, which pays 185000, then send 2 good 100-120k movies afterwards ideally for some 5m spots. On day 2 BP and Camel spots. Day 3 satellite. Without Rear Window it can take a bit longer, day 5 or 6 maybe.

Can you elaborate, please? Neither Jotti nor Virustotal find any malware in the archive.

Hmm, comodo immediatly blocked the download. But now I opened it with a 7zip since it seems to be a zip archive and there is not even an exe inside.
But I did upload it to virustotal and it shows 13/48 reports.

And I am not sure what is inside. Did I even get the right file? The download site says File Size : 801.43 KB , but the file is only 301kb.

Inside are many files that have nothing to do with the old madtv files. No idea what this is,I am not brave enough to just execute it.


Edit: Tried with a download manager now and it loads the correct file. Apparently ziddu gave me this malware file instead when I clocked on download there. The wrong file is fixmad-tv.zip.exe 301kb, the correct file is : fixmad-tv.zip 802kb. Still not sure what I did wrong at ziddu. Entered the captcha and clicked download...gives me the exe all the time.

Didnt try the game, but by comparing the files it seems to be just the normal version with the .rsc files, nothing new or fixed...

This is an amazing game. One of the best ever made. The gameplay is simply too addictive.

I played a lot in the early nineties, I managed to ruin the competition, but never played to the end. I started to play it again a few months ago, from time to time, but in long sessions. I just can't quit it easily. I got to the end yesterday. Great fun!

I got to the 27th day on normal difficulty. The other channels died fast. This could be an aspect to improve.
