Oh yeah, the Quest for Glory series rule! Especially this first one. Have played it through at least 5 times with different kinds of characters and so on.

I've never played this remake version, but it seems that now I will get to do that.

I loved these games, in fact when I was younger I bought the collection off amazon.com which included all 4 versions. I loved the first one a lot, the second one was cool, but had pretty bad graphics which is why I'm excited for the VGA version they're working on. 3 and 4 were good too. Cept they both needed patches and I could never find them...If you want me to I might be able to upload the 3rd one but I have no clue how to go about it...I guess it depends on what the hosts of the website have to say. Hope that helps, and if anyone ever needs any help on this game, let me know, I think I've beaten it like 15 times, :D .

xndr2181: There working on a VGA version of number 2?

This is the best ever quest series and these games are one of the best rpgs ever are there any plans for getting the rest of the series on abandonia? I'd like to help but all the disks i had are lost or damaged.

I never finished quest for glory 4 but by god one day i will.

Anyone ever play number 5 was it any good?

I bought Quest for Glory 5: Dragon Fire the day it was released. (Haven't done that in a while)

Anyway, personally I though it was pretty good. Bloody hard (but maybe I'm just hopeless).

I LOVED the Dryad bit. Shame there wasn't more to it, though. I mean Wizard's Staff: pretty bloody important! What gruelling, mind-twisting tasks do you need to complete to be able to get it? Watering trees, then Dancing!

yeah i never heard good things about number 5 so i never bothered to play it.

im not so sure about any of the quest series being abandoned form what i can remember serria is relly strict about that sort of thing
altho considering how many serria games are on this site i might be wrong :)

Yeah, I played the demo of QFG5 and wasn't too impressed. They tried the whole 3d thing, and I'm not the biggest 3D adventure game fan. Although like I said, I only played the demo, so it's possible the game was good. Did anyone play the 4th one and have game problems? I hated the fact that I knew how to beat the game but couldn't cause it glitched so much.

yeah i bought qg4 when it first came out and couldnt finsh it cause of bugs then bought the anthology cd with all 4 games on it and still couldnt finish number 4

quest for glory 2 was the hardest game in the series imo - im crap at spelling and i always got lost in the cities mazes the majik map helps but still, pain in the ass to navigate when i first palyed it as a kid

Yeah, I had quest for glory 4 as well from the anthology, it pissed me off so much that it was so glitchy. Anway, I agree the second game was the hardest but there was nothing more satisfying then beating it without a walkthrough, I was so proud of myself  .

Hehehe, that's awesome, I wish I could have been that successful at games, but sadly I tend to use walkthroughs when I get stuck really hardcore. Oh, well all I ever used the walkthrough for religiously were the Final Fantasy games.

Hey I've got a problem - i'm stuck at the maze . I pull the chain the door opens and closes but when I come to it thes a wall inside. Is that because the game goes too fast (I noticed that witch the swordsman) or do I do something wrong?

As I recall that's just part of the maze. My advice is to look for another exit, ;)

Well I think I've used all the possible ones.At this moment I can go in one door pull the chain, yorick stands up and the door opens. But when I go back and try to enter the door I've opened before they're closed. I even tried the walkthrough - it says that I should go through the door I try to open. But HOW?

PS.
Sorry for my english I'm not from the USA...

Never played the VGA version, only the EGA one, and I just toyed around with the room until I got out, so dunno how to say it. Looked it up in a walkthrough (for the VGA version). This's what it says:

This is an interesting room.* Here's the top-view layout:

* * * * * * * * * * * * 7* * * 5*
* * * * * * * * * * * * 6|* ME* |* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * }* }* |2* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * 4 +---+---+* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * }* |3* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * 1----+-+-}* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * |* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * +----+* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * |* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * E* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

You'll enter at point E.* Note that any "}" in the area is a trap door.*
If you walk over a trap door, or off any platform, you'll tumble out
door 5 and keep rolling.* To stop, type "stop", and you'll skid to a
stop.

First things first.* Talk to ME.* This is the Brigand Warlock.* If
you've been paying attention at all, you'd guess that this is Yorick,
the Jester.* Ask him (2) about Elsa or Yorick (8).* Unfortunately, even
with all that talking, he'll interfere with the process, tossing books,
apple cores, etc. at you.* If, by chance, you have magic, try to cast a
spell, and he'll take off.

Anyway, walk over to door 1 and you'll come out the doggie door at 2.*
Enter door 3 and you'll come up at door 4 which is above the floor.*
Pull the chain and you'll open 5.* Head back and go through 5.* You'll
come out at 6.* Open door 7 and get out of the way before it flattens
you.* Now, walk through door 7 and into the final room. (12)

NOTE: On the VGA version, it's VERY tough to make the run over to the
door.* Turn up the Speed on the Control Panel all the way, then quickly
pull the rope, walk back through the opening, and into the door.* It's
really tough, but possible...

Walkthrough's by CyricZ, just to give credit ;)

This site is great, I am so happy I stumbled upon it.

I have a question, does this game have speech? I can't remember if it does or not, and I've managed to get sound and music playing but no speech.

Thnx

On many fatser computers (like mine) the door will close almost as soon as you open it, regardless of the speed (if you turn the speed all the way down, the door will appear to stay open, but thats just a bug, you still can't go through it). That is the computer's fault, not the games. :D Run turbo or some similar program when you get to this part, and that should help.

G'day, The best way to play the Quest for Glory games seems to be in DOSBOX. Inregards to the Quest for Glory 4 CD - Download all of the patches, execute them all and then use DOSBOX. I got to the end (which after all the work was slightly dissappointing...) but the games is much more fun without all the glitches, and slowing turbo up and down.

Quest for Glory 1 VGA - after getting pretty much all the way through (I mean I was playing for hours) I got stuck at Yoricks maze door. Even though the door was opened my stupid hero could not get through (I mean the dude beat monsters, fairies, armies and yet couldn't pass through a door) It pissed me off so much that after an hour or so of restarting the computer, trying every directional button including the mouse to get through I deleted the file and threw a dummy spit. It was after I deleted all of the files including the saved games I came across a PATCH for "Yorick's maze door" ARGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!. I can't remember the name of the site...but it is available.

Once again the best I can suggest is play through dosbox.

Good Luck

LOL Amanda-Lyn!!! :D

If you ask me, the best way to play those old games is to play them on old computer!
Also I have found that Win98 is even better in some games than DosBox (I mean on never computers).

BTW I stuck at maze, too. But it was long time ago when I played this game, then I deleted it.

Kon-Tiki
10-10-2004, 01:27 AM
That maze's easier in the EGA version. Wait a bit until I've screenshotted and reviewed it, so Kosta can add it. Until then, try this link. (http://www.abandonia.com/~kon-tiki/QfG/QfG1.zip)

About the game, the quest for glory games are the greatest adventure/rpg games ever made. This first part is the less of the 5.

Kon-Tiki

I find it the best one. Then again, never was lucky enough to play nr. 5, so can only speak of the first 4.

It's a completely different style than the other 4, but doesn't mean it's bad. Just wouldn't compare it to the others.

Ah yes the infamous QFG series, my favorite of all adventure games, and theone series I probably know inside and out with every single possible class. The game I am weakest on is probably Quest for Glory 2: Trial by Fire, but I did manage to beat the game with all three classes, becoming a Paladin with each. I used to watch my brother play the games when I was young (six years old or so), and then when I was twelve I was looking through a clearance bin and happened to see Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire. After playing Dragon Fire, I proceeded to go ebay and purchase the entire collection for only $27 dollars (you see, people don't ususally buy CD's without a picture, and without the original box...I just wanted the games)Although I must disagree that Dragon Fire was the best game, I definately enjoyed it very much. I believe it to be one of the best 3D Adventure games, seeing as how most of the time they totally tank. Being a music buff, that is one of the things I noticed about Dragon Fire; its music was absolutely incredible. I really enjoyed the soundtrack. I do remember Shadows of Darkness as being very buggy, but I also remember learning how to bypass many of the bugs (stupid error 52, hallelujah for CPU Killer and a slow computer.) Anyway, that's my two cents. I hope to see Trial by Fire and Shadows of Darkness on this site soon.

AGD Interactive is in the process of making a VGA version of QFG 2. Their VGA version of King's Quest 1 and especially King's Quest 2 were phenomenal, so I'm sure they'll do a good job with QFG 2 as well. I'm not sure when it's due to be released, but they've been working on it for a while now so hopefully it's not too far off. Their website is www.agdinteractive.com (http://www.agdinteractive.com).

I consider 5 to be the worst. The gulf between the core series, 1-4, and 5 is as wide as the grand canyon. Before you call me a curmudgeon who doesn't accept change (it's true though) it's not the engine. It's the plot. Peew.

i run gen midi (although all music drivers work) and sound blaster in speech options (it is the only one supported on my computer)

Hmm... I guess I belong to the group of few people who like QfG5 the best. I actually owned QfG3 way back in early 1990s, but I was not able to finish it (I only played for a few days before losing interest). Then a couple of years back I bought QfG5 CD in the clearance sale. I had to resort to walkthrough in the end, but that is the first among QfG series that I finished playing. I even re-played it with all types of characters. So, I guess it's a matter of first impression. That's why I like QfG5 the best.

Then I got hold of QfG4.5 (the parody of QfG series), and played it twice using fighter and thief character types. Although it is not officially from Sierra, at that point it actually makes me interested to know about the rest of QfG series. So I obtained QfG3 and QfG4 and played both. I only played each of them one time though (with fighter character type).

So again I guess it's because of the order I played the series that I like QfG5 the best.

I'm now looking forward to QfG2 remake from AGD Interactive :ok:

To beat the Fire Elemental in QFG II, you need to get some incense and spread it on the ground in the plaza. The elemental will follow the trail so you need to move in the nearby alley. Once there, put the lamp on the ground. When the elemental reaches it, use a waterskin on it and you will capture it in the lamp. You can get a lamp at the fountain plaza and you can get incense at the alchemists.

I was wondering, in the 1st one (remake) after being turned into the frog by the witch for the first time and you have to get the Mandrake root, can you get it without the potion. Cuz i can't get back into the healing place to get it because it's night and I have to get it before sunrise, Eeeerrr!!!. Someone said they got it without the potions by coming from the North but it's blocked by bushes.

All the QFG series were great! Even 5.

Each had something more to give to the series.

It's a pity they stopped it.

However, there is a site about QFG 6 on the net! :ok:

http://www.hero6.com/

However it is still in production!

I have finished all QFG, with all characters, with full scores with full attributes scores, at least 3 times each! It was a very rewarding experience.

Ah Quest for Glory, really such a great series. My favorite one is, by far, the fourth one, despite all the bugs. However the most satisfying thing I did was when the 5th one came out, taking a character, and starting from the first game and saving that character along the entire series. Why don't games let you do that anymore?

You seem familiar somehow, Partizanka.

And I must agree, the 4th one is the best, followed by the first one, IMO.

I also played them through with the same character, except for the 5th one, which I never managed to finish.

*edit*

I see you miss the original version of qfg as well as number 2 and 4 (and 5, obviously, but I'm guessing that's still being sold). I you're interested I have those, with manuals, and wouldn't mind reviewing them.

Same here. I was hanging out for it so much I got the first copy the store had. :) Plus I'm still using the 4.1 channel cambridge soundworks I won from sierra in the competition they had when they released QFG5. Yep, it was me that won them. :D Man, that's like 6 years ago now, I still have no reason to replace them.

I like how in #5 how you could do all of the "liberate the village" tasks. I just went from one to the next and totally kicked arse. Each village had it's own unique special treasure in a chest as well. Only thing I didn't like about it was the glide spell was useless and the farting around to get to the science island each time. The hell area was very cool too. The thief puzzle was a real PITA though.

But with that said, I still have to say that the first one is my favorite followed by the 2nd game. I actually rank them all in order of favorites: 1,2,5,3,4. And between the EGA and VGA versions of QFG1, I liked the EGA (hero's quest), version the best.

Whats up!!! I am new to this website. Anyway, I wanted to say that when Quest for Glory was introduced to me around 1996 when I was little I really liked it a lot.
I first started playing Kings Quest 6 and I saw that it came with Sierra game demos. I saw Wages Of War and Shadows Of Darkness and immediately fell in love. Couple of years later around 2001 I finally bought Shadows Of Darkness at Yahoo.I never finished the game because of the missing patches and I always stopped in the swamp part when I have to get that final ritual.I then downloaded Quest For Glory 3 off the internet and beat it. It was cool!I then went to play the vga remake of the first game.It was very fun.I am still waiting for that remake of Trial By Fire.I played the original but found it to hard.Anyways, if any of you guys know any ways on fixing the Quest For Glory 4 please inform me!!

I know that QG4 is not abandoned, but I'd really like for someone to explain to me in detail the how and why (I'm not asking for the game, and I'm not asking for the definition of abandonware). 1VGA, 2, and 3 seem to be abandoned and are easily found in the abandonware ring. Why not 4? It can't have been supported within the last few years, can it? Is there some weirdo legal situation where 1, 4, and 5 are protected and 1 VGA, 2, and 3 are not?

Anyway, if someone could clear that up for me (and maybe tell me that 4 will be abandoned soon...), that would be great. Ah, to get a hold of 1 and 4...

I can't explain that one, but before you play the game, max out your throwing skills.

Go and throw daggers at the target outside of town, or go to where the spitting seed is and pick up a gazillion rocks and just throw them, (fastest way). Also casting firedart increases throw skill too.

And throwing rocks at monsters before battle should see a decrese in their health. Also builds strength and agility too throwing rocks. :)

Hi. Great Site.

But, I've been having some serious problems with QFG1.

First, I can't seem to fight the weapon master. Every time I do, he instantly knocks me to the edge of the screen in one hit.

Second, after rescuing the baron's son, I can't get into the castle. The two guards out front play their trumpets, and then the castle door opens, and then the hero walks toward the door. Then, he just freezes there. The music continues to play, and it doesn't error or loop; it plays the way it's supposed to when you get inside the castle. But, the hero doesn't go inside. He just stands in the open door way.

I've tried everything I can think of to fix the problem. I've played the game patched, unpatched, on dosbox, in XP, in XP command shell, and on every other MS OS I have, win 3.1, win 95, win 98, win 98SE, win 2000, and win NT.

I've already tried the game with and without the patches from

http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arcad...s/Downloads.htm (http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arcade/7435/Goodies/Downloads.htm)

Has anyone else ever had either of these problems?

It's so frustrating that it makes me want to kill myself.

I ran into this problem too. Luckily I'd saved shortly beforehand so I was able to go back and just keep walking through the door until it finally worked. If that doesn't work for you I'm not sure what will.

Now the series I have been in love with for years, personally QFG2 I would say was the most in depth but QFG1 had the originality and 4 was real buggy but i finished it after going through hell. My fav bug was in the swamp where you gotta fight those tentacle monk things and it kept crashing but all i had to do to make it work was turn the sound on Internal Speaker(the beeps). Bloody good game and Number 5 was a dissapointment to an extent, the interface was what got to me but I still think it had very innovative puzzles and it still holds replay value as you can miss some puzzles and still finish the game. My fav bit was the Dragon battle that totally kicked behind. I really wish there would be a new one coming.

My only other thought right now is it's probably a timing issue. The VGA sierra games did suffer from it (QFG4 did in a huge way).

Try running under dosbox with a lower cpu speed if you already are, or try running it on a genuine old computer, maybe something like a pentium 100.

The link to the classic version at sierrac was dead when I tried today, but some googling gave me

http://www.oldgames.org/games.php?showcat=Q

which is the original version and seems to run just fine under DOSBox.

I prefer the original to be honest, maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's the combat system. Maybe it's the fact that I encountered 2 annoying bugs in the remake after less than 10 minutes of play.
(Tied with the guildmaster in knife-throwing game, he said 'double the wages' and then nothing else happened and the only way I found out of it was restore, and got annoying pop-ups all over the screen when I pick a little too many magic mushrooms... mmm... mushrooms).

Never got around to trying QFG 4/5, so I'm looking forward to that after playing a character through the first 3 games. I'm gonna go Thief/Magic this time I think. Never did that combo before.
Does anyone know if I'll be able to stay a Thief if I complete the wizard initiation thing in QFG2? I seem to remember the game changing the class around when you multiclassed (either by adding attributes on character creation or wishing for attributes from the genie in the bottle in QFG2)

I want this guy to stay a cool, hide behind the cloak thief and not a wimpy, fireslinging, handglowing wizard once I get to QFG3.

Great site btw, I just downloaded about 20 games that I remember enjoying back in the stoneage.

Aha! Quest for Glory series are the best Sierra ever produced, and I have played all (I to IV) them again and agin ever since they started coming out. Regrettably I don't have V Dragon FIre as I was going through the worst period of my life when it came out and I missed it.

QFG 1 (Original) is the most dificult - the writing part plus recovering your health and vigor...fighting is tough and money is hard to come by...but very enjoyable nevertheless, the VGA remake is comparatively easier. But Shadows of Darkness is the best story wise!

If you're playing as Magic User or a Fighter-cum-Magic User then winning the Maze game from Erasmus is very difficult. Yorick's maze, once you understand it is easier.

If you QFG lovers wish you can go to www.howtobeahero.com and find your Inner Hero :ok: It's owned by Lori Ann Cole.

If Sierra would actually bother to ******** release the games I wouldn't mind, but finding copies of Quest for Glory games is a real pain. Ebay rarely has any and even then, they usually are only available in countries that would cost me a fortune to ship from. I'm not too happy with ESA - sure, protection your rights, but why the hell would you do it when the game is no longer available? It could only be to your advantage because letting people download the old Leisure Suit Larry games would only make people more aware of the new versions out.

If Sierra (or Vivendi) had some brains, they would have done like Revolution and released their old adventure games as freeware for everyone to enjoy.

Well I thought it was kinda implied - I doubt anyone who isn't a collector would pay $30+ for a 15 year old game. And only US sellers have QfG1 and I refuse to buy from them - P&P is easily 3,4 times the cost of the game itself because of outrageous prices. If I can mail a game to the USA for $6, why would it cost them $25+? So, since not everyone is American, my point still remains: Quest For Glory is hard to find this way. Trust me, I've looked for the anthology (and they're selling for $60+ on Ebay).

That's the thing though, I just want to play it, I don't want to pay more than I would pay for a new game, that's insane. I'm not that desperate, I'm just annoyed that Vivendi would want to protect their old games yet don't make them available. If I could get the Anthology (1->4) for say $30 including P&P, I'd go for it immediately, and that's about what it's worth (QfG5 is being sold for $5 here for god's sake so why ask more for the previous ones) but the games are so rare they sell for loads on eBay.

A. J. Raffles
16-06-2005, 08:18 AM
I'm sorry, but in that case it's clearly your problem and has nothing to do with ESA. Mind you, I wouldn't pay $30 for a game either. Still, the game in the link I gave you sold for 3.99, and you can't really call that "loads". As far as I can tell, collections tend to be more expensive than individual games, though (at least it's like that with the Space Quest series). But it's up to you, of course.
Good luck in your quest for the Quest for Glory games, then.

I have almost all Sierra and other games...but missed out on QFG V Dragon Fire due a bad phase I was going through. Both eBay and Amazon have it but at exorbitant prices...$45 + $20 for mailing...I would love have it but not at price when I multiply a $ by 50...a retired person like me has to think ten times before spending that kind money...stupid :eeeeeh:

If ESA is so keen on protecting the so called rights of Vivandi and others why on earth can't they ask them to make more. And by the way most of the games available on eBay or Amazon are being resold, doesn't than an infringement of 'copy-rights'?

Disgusting! :not_ok:

Was referred to this site by a friend...Great site by the way!

Anyway, my first QFG game was QFG4, when I was a kid, around 1996?!?
Got totally hooked, and just found about this site...Unfortunately, found out the file was ESA protected...Aargh...

Fortunately, my brother had a copy of QFG 4 lying around, so..Oh yeah!!
Haha..but unfortunately he lost the manual and without it, I can't play...
(the game asks for one of the alchemical formulas..you know pizza+pizza+earth+fire...etc..)

anybody got a copy of the manual lying around?

Thanks and more power to you guys!

Hey thanks a lot! Really couldn't play the game without it!

:ok: :ok: :ok: :ok:

P.S. Actually got tired of waiting (for about an hour...sorry, really short patience..haha..) .

So I got QFG1...first time to play it...and it still feels great! Even beats new games with amazing graphics but crappy storylines and scriptwriting...

I replied to your post after 15 minutes, actually...

Well, anyway, I'm glad it's what you were looking for.

Hey, I'm new to the site but most definitely not new to QFG.

Anyway I've been trying to install QFG1 in DosBox and I can't get it to work. From the floppies, all it does is freeze with a cursor on the screen.

With the downloaded version someone posted above (thanks so much!) I get a "not enough space" error when I really do have the meager 2.6MB to spare ;)

Can anyone help me please?

Are you quite sure you need to install it at all? Quite a few games work fine in DOSBox if you just stick all the files in a folder and copy it into the CDrive folder.

I tried that, too :(

Strange. Maybe you need to change something about the DOSBox configuration file, then. You might try searching the troubleshooting forum, and make a post about it if there isn't a thread about it already.

Hero's Quest [Oldschool name!] 2 is my favorite game of all time. Bar none.
Unless of course I thought it was better than Hero's Quest 1, which I do, and I don't. This might seem confusing but picking between them is like picking between siblings. They're truly fantastic, compelling stories, great writing, beautiful art, heroically fantastic music, just amazingly fulfilling gaming. Three was shocking by compairson because it was so scimpy on all the little anachronisms and minor side-quests that made the first two great, in fact I only really play it so that I can import my character into four, which really was great. Although I have to say that the fighting in three and four was atrocious, but at least four had a great storyline and a really intense feel to the game. The whole Eastern European mytholgoy thing worked really, really well.
Five was so bad it was like having a favorite unkle look after you your whole life, give you the best presents, the best advice and then one day try to put his hands down your pants. I don't even consider it part of the series, I haven't finished it, I have no interest in it, I don't rate it or care about it. I haven't really done anything with it. I might use it as a paperweight, if I wasn't worried that it might muddy up my documents.

Aww! Don't belittle Wages of War so much, it's good in its own way. Wanted a Hero...( both EGA & VGA)and Trial by Fire(original) are very good, and Shadows is perhaps the greatest, haven't played Dragon Fire simply because I don't have it and can't get it

Have played all four as Figter, Magic User, Paladin and Wizard and loved replaying all of them...not simply for the sake of importing my character but for themselves :ok:

I am a huge Quest for Glory fan!! I love the series. I played them about eleven times (all of them)...
Here's a quick walkthrough...
QUEST FOR GLORY I: SO YOU WANT TO BE A HERO
INTRODUCTION This walkthrough gives explicit instructions that lead to a successful conclusion to QUEST FOR GLORY I. It provides, where necessary, separate directions for each of three different characters: Fighter, Magic User, and Thief. The information given here assumes that the player has read the game documentation included in the QUEST FOR GLORY I game box. The documentation comprises the "Sierra Game Manual," the "Quest for Glory I: So you want to be a Hero" manual, and the "Famous Adventurers' Correspondence School" manual. A map is included at the end of this walkthrough so you can find your way around easily. (Note that this walkthrough contains elements of the Thief walkthrough for the original HERO'S QUEST game, which is located, at the time of writing, in the TEG Archives. This walkthrough completely replaces that file.)
CREATING A CHARACTER Before you can start playing the game, you must select your character then customize the ability he has in each skill. I found the Thief easiest to play. The Fighter was more difficult and the Magic User the most challenging. Customize your character according to the following guidelines. You must have some points in a skill to be able to develop it further in the game. Make sure you have some magic skill, and climbing or throwing skill, preferably both. In addition: Thief: Increase his strength, intelligence, vitality, parry, and magic. Fighter: Increase his strength, agility, vitality, weapon use, parry, and magic. If you have points left over, stealth is also useful for Fighters and Magic Users.
GENERAL HINTS After defeating an enemy, search the body. There is often treasure. When fighting the goblins in their particular bushy area, they return in ever increasing numbers, so don't take on too many until you have built up your fighting skills. Rest whenever your stamina gets low. It is safe to sleep inside the town walls (except the alley), the castle stables, the hermit's house, and Erana's Peace. It is safe to rest anywhere the game allows. If you can't do something as described in the walkthrough, it's probably because you don't have enough ability in a particular skill. All characters must practice fighting and killing as many goblins and brigands as much as possible. (This also makes you rich if you search their bodies.) To improve throwing skills, practice throwing daggers at the archery target. To improve climbing skills, practice climbing the tree outside the healers house, the town wall, the castle wall, and the hermit's ladder. In a similar vein, Magic Users must also practice their spells, and Thieves must also practice their sneaking. If you don't have enough money to buy potions, spells, equipment, or training, you can: 1) earn money by working at the castle stables; 2) defeat goblins and brigands and then take their money; 3) sell spell components and empty flasks to the healer; 4) find the healer's ring and return it to her; 5) kill the ogre and find his treasure; 6) find the kobold's treasure; 7) visit the castle for a reward once you rescue the Baronet; 8) if you're a thief, steal and sell stolen goods to the thieves' guild. Last but not least, save your game reasonably often. You can die fairly easily, especially while you are inexperienced. Later on, the challenges and timing are trickier, so saving is essential throughout the game.
FREEING THE BARONET SPIELBERG When you enter the town, you automatically go to the sheriff. Talk to him on every subject you can. Go left to the guild hall and enter it. Go to the book and sign it. Go to the board, look at it, and read the notices on it. Go to the guild master and ask him about the hall. Ask him about every subject you can. Then leave the guild hall.
MAGIC SHOP Go into the magic shop. Walk toward the pink globe. Here you can buy either the open spell, the flame dart spell, or the fetch spell. You should buy at least one of the open or the dart spells. Magic Users should buy as many spells as possible. You can also buy a potion if you want. Magic Users should buy a Power Potion or two. Do not spend all your money here as there are more important things left to get. Ask Zara about the valley, the town, the Aura, magic, Baba Yaga, Erasmus, wizards, the Curse, and the Baron.
INN Now go to the inn (one screen to the right) and ask the innkeeper about any subject that's new to you. Once you are finished, leave the inn and go to the upper right (until you change screens). Go to the centaur and ask her about the fruit and her father. Buy sixty apples and twenty vegetables.
DRY GOODS STORE Next, go to the dry goods store and ask the merchant about the weapons he has, or about the store. Buy two flasks and one dagger, then leave the store. Exit the town by going down to the lower right part of the screen. If you need to improve your throwing skill, buy two extra daggers.
FLYING FALLS AND HERMIT Once outside the town, go down two times, and right once to the waterfall. Fill one of the flasks with water from the falls. Climbing skill: Eventually you will be able to climb up to the door. Throwing skill: Pick up some rocks, and start throwing them at the door. Keep doing this until you hit the door three times, which will make the hermit come out. Once he comes out and shows you the ladder, climb up the cliff. Go to the door and knock. After knocking, go right carefully so you are right up against the rock face, or the door will knock you down as it opens. Enter the cave and sit down at the table. Ask the hermit about the cave, his family, the ladder, the spell, and finally about the trigger spell. Ask for the scroll (respond yes to his question), then take the scroll. Spend the night here, if it is time to sleep for the night.
DRYAD In the daylight, climb down and go left until you follow the white stag into a little niche of the woods. The dryad appears. When she asks "Are you one with the woods?" Say yes.
MUSHROOM RING Leave by going to the right, then go up. Take some mushrooms, then eat a mushroom (do this only once). The colors are neat, eh?
MEEPS After your psychedelic experience, go up then left until you reach the Meeps. Talk to the Meeps. Ask the green Meep about magic, and ask it for some green fur. Take the scroll and the fur.
SKULLS AND BABA YAGA Go right twice, then up three times, ignoring or fighting the goblins on the way. Go to the skull at the gate and ask about the hut and the deal. (Respond yes to his question.)
SEED Now, go down, right, up, right, and up. Once here, you will see the seed and the plant the dryad wanted. Climbing skill: Climb up the rocks and try catching the seed. Throwing skill: Throw a rock and knock the seed out of the air. Or you can cast a fetch spell.
ERANA'S PEACE Once you have the seed, go right, up, right, and up. This is Erana's Peace. Go to the tree and take some flowers (do this twice), then eat some of the fruit. After eating the fruit, sleep. Go to the rock and cast the open spell. The rock will move. Take the scroll for the calm spell which is hidden underneath. (Reminder...a great place to return to, to sleep at night!)
ERASMUS From Erana's Peace, go down, left, down, then right as far as you can. Then go down and right as far as you can. Go up the mountain. Respond to the Gargoyles first two questions by telling him your name and saying you want to be a hero or wizard. The third question varies, if you don't know the answer, rest, then climb the mountain again. Once past the gargoyle go straight up the stairs into the tower. Do not dally. Magic User: Save. The wizard will ask you if you know the trigger, open, flame dart, and fetch spells. If you do (and you should), respond yes to all his questions and you will find yourself playing the Mage's Maze. Read the game documentation on the wizard's game carefully to learn how to play this game. You will probably have to practice a few times before you win. It is good idea to have at least one spare power potion. Keep to the left of the maze to begin with, and the path should then be obvious down to the lower right of the maze. If not, read on! You are the blue "character" on the left, unable to progress. If you are stuck because the way is blocked by a boulder, use the open spell on the boulder. Next there may be a chasm in front of you. Fetch a bridge from the lower right of the scene over to where you need it. Your blue "character" will cross the bridge and may get stuck at another chasm. If so, fetch the bridge and place it over the chasm. Next you may be stuck at a high cliff. If so, fetch a ladder to the cliff. Make your "character" larger. You will then climb down the ladder. The way on may be blocked by a boulder. If so, use the open spell to clear the way through. Then make yourself smaller. Fetch the bridge again to get over the next chasm and the next, if needed. On winning this game, the wizard teaches you his Razzle Dazzle spell. Chat with Erasmus and Fenrus about this and that.
OGRE, BEAR, AND KOBOLD Go left twice, then up, left twice, up, and right twice. Save immediately. There is a extremely large, tough ogre here. You do not want to fight this ogre unless you have sufficient experience points and strength. If so, you can eliminate him now or later and get access to his treasure chest. Search the dead ogre and force his treasure chest open with your sword, use the Open spell, or pick it open. Otherwise, if possible, avoid the ogre. When he starts walking toward you, go down and around him, dodge him, and enter the cave. Go up to the bear and feed him (or cast the calm spell). Save again. Thief: "Sneak," so you are now tip-toeing. Go right, then go to the kobold. If the kobold wakes, you have not enough experience "sneaking." You may fight him if you wish, or restore a saved game and return after gaining more experience as a thief. If you fight the kobold you may find a dead spot when he is on the left ledge and you are in combat. If this happens you cannot harm each other. The combat grid also disappears. You will probably have to restore a saved game. Fighter: When you are skilled enough, you will be able to defeat the kobold with your swordmanship. (I suggest that you build up at least 130 experience points before attempting this.) Magic User: Use the Dazzle and Flame Dart spells alternately on the kobold. He is very sensitive to light. If and when you run out of magic points (and power or mana potions) finish him off with your dagger. Take the key. Then open the kobold's chest (you may not be able to see it) with the open or trigger spell and take the treasure. Do not take the kobold's mushrooms. They will contaminate any fresh mushrooms that you are carrying. Calm or feed the bear again, if needed, then use the key on the bear, and he will be transformed into the missing Baronet!
SURVIVING BABA YAGA AND GETTING THE DISPEL POTION COMPONENTS OGRE Unfortunately, you are still in the cave. Go down and you will immediately be confronted by the ogre, if you didn't kill him already. You can fight him if you want, but check your experience and strength points first. Make sure you have saved your game before doing so and check out the instructions on the ogre above. The sane thing to do is escape the battle, if you can, as you shouldn't need the treasure, and go to the left. Go to the left again, then down four times.
CENTAUR Go to the centaur and ask him about his farm, the brigands, the brigands' leader, and the warlock. You can also ask him about the healer, harvest time, and crops.
GEM Go right three times and you will meet the big bad dude from the north. Do not try to fight this guy because he will turn you into mincemeat (just in time for Christmas) in a second. Casting a spell at him won't work, either; even before you complete the spell, you will have endangered yourself. Instead, bargain with him, and give him your fruit. Leave (go to the left once), and rest here for a while (rest as many times as you can).
FOX Go down and to the left twice (or until you come to the gates of town). If you meet a fox, free him from the trap. (Even if you don't meet him now, you probably will later in your travels, so free him then.)
CASTLE You are back at the town gates. Go up twice so you're in front of the castle. The guard will open the gate for you. Now, go up twice to the front entrance to the castle doors where you are formally congratulated by the old windbag of a king. Ask him about the curse, Baba Yaga, his daughter, and finally, the Baronet. Talk to the Baronet. (You can tell he was thankful for what you did!) Leave the room by going right and the baron will have you spend the night.
STABLES Go down from the front door then to the right. Go to the window and answer yes to the proposal made by the stable manager. Once you are finished cleaning up the stable (ugh!), go to the left, and down. Yell up to the guard and ask him about the rewards. Fighter: In the courtyard, you may come across the swordmaster who will sell you some training in swordmanship. Go down twice and left once so that you enter the town.
DRYAD Leave the town and go the dryad (from the town gates go down twice and left five times). Respond yes to her question, and take the acorn from the ground.
BABA YAGA Before visiting Baba Yaga this time make sure it is early in the day. She is going to give you a deadline. Go right once then up until you come to her gate. Go to the skull and respond by saying yes. Give it the gem. _Do not_ move forward. Speak to the hut and say the rhyme "Hut of brown, now sit down." Enter the hut. Respond yes to all of the witch's questions.
HEALER'S RING Go down twice and then right until you reach the Healer's house. Climbing skill: Climb the tree. This may take many, many attempts. Look at the nest. Throwing Skill: Throw a rock at the bird and it will knock the nest to the ground.
HEALER Take the ring. Go to the house and knock on the door. Give the ring to the healer. You automatically leave the house, so you have to knock on the door again. Once inside the second time, look at the house and the bird. Give some of the flowers from Erana's Peace to her (do this only once so you'll still have some), then give her all your mushrooms. Buy the undead unguent and give her the acorn, the water, and the green fur. When she's not looking you can steal some healing potions from near the cauldron. Leave and rest outside.
ARCHERY TARGET Throwing Skill: Go down three times, left, then up. Throw your daggers at the board. Take your daggers back. Do this repeatedly until you get tired. Rest, then continue until it is night.
THIEVES GUILD Thief: Return to the town gate. Climb the town wall, go to the upper right, and to the left to the bar. Go up into the alley and then to the flashing coin. When the thieves appear, make the thief's sign. They will tell you the password. Once you know the password, leave the alley. Go into the bar and go to the Goon. Tell him the password. Listen to the guild master's outrage, then go to Bruno (the guy behind the door) and buy a license, some thief's tools, and an extra pick. Go to the guild master and ask him about the guild, the brigands, and a traitor. Play the dagger game with him. (Note: His accuracy with the dagger increases with the amount you bet.) Once finished, leave by climbing the ladder, and exiting the bar.
MANDRAKE ROOT AND FAIRY DUST You must watch your clock; when it becomes midnight, you must leave the town, and go to the centaur's farm on the northern side of the town. Use the undead unguent, then go to the left twice and down and right. Take the mandrake root, which is on the tombstone to your right (it's the red plant coming out of the ground near the tombstone). While you're out here, go back to the screen with the mushrooms (down once and left three times). Dance for the fairies (but do not step in the ring of mushrooms), then ask for some fairy dust. As soon as you have both the fairy dust, return to the town with the mandrake root.
THIEVING IN SPIELBERG Thief: Make your way to the house next door to the dry goods store. Pick the door (this will take a few tries). Once inside, "sneak." Get the music box, the candelabra, and the vase. Go back to the desk and search it. Go to the painting, move it, pick the safe, and take the coins. Once you have the coins, close the safe and replace the painting. Leave the house and "walk." Go down and left. Pick the door of the house between the magic shop and guild hall. Get the candlesticks. Go to the basket and take it (it has pearls inside). Go to the desk, search it, then go to the couch, and search it. Save, then pet the cat. Restore if the cat "licks" you. Leave the house, and climb the town wall. Note: Make sure you clean out both of these houses before dawn.
BABA YAGA Go down once, left twice, up four times, left, and up. Say the rhyme again. Enter the house and answer yes to the witch's question. Congratulations! You have survived Baba Yaga!
FREEING ELSA AND FULFILLING THE PROPHECY SPIELBERG Thief: Once Baba Yaga's speech is over, go down, right, down, right twice, and climb the town wall. (If it is daylight, enter the town through the gate.) Go to the thieves guild. Once in the thieves guild, go to Bruno and sell the music box, candelabra, vase, candlesticks, and pearls. Leave the guild and the bar. Wait for daybreak. Once dawn has arrived, visit the alley near the bar in the town and give the beggar some money. Ask about the brigands, thieves, the bar, and dragon breath, then leave the alley.
BRUNO AND BRUTUS Go back to the town bar and read the note on the floor. From the town gate go down twice, left twice, up once, and right to the fence. Bruno and Brutus should be here (if they aren't, move back and forth a while; they will appear). Listen from behind the wall to what they say. Kill Brutus with long- range weapons like thrown daggers and the dart spell. Once he is dead, go left, down, right, and up once to search his body and take the key, quickly...very quickly. If you don't, you will be killed by Bruno. Alternatively, circumnavigate the town by going left from the wall then collect the key. Return to the town gate. Bruno should be here. Go up to him and buy some information about the thieves guild, the Baron, and Baba Yaga. When you leave, he should say something about the dragon's breath.
HEALER Go to the healer's house and give her the fairy dust. Go out, then re-enter and get the dispel potion.
BRIGAND'S LAIR Go down twice, left three times, and down one more time. Avoid contact with the Antwerp. Wait for the Antwerp to bounce out of the way then go to the left of the screen and search the rocks. Use the key on the door, then open it. Don’t move. Say Hiden Goseke. The troll will move back. Enter the cave, go left, down, then right. Here you should cast the calm spell or fight the minotaur, then go to the gate. Either pick the door lock, or cast an open spell. Once it's unlocked, open the gate, and go in. If you can not open the gate you must have some climbing skill. Climb up the rocks on the right and go in. This is the trap room. Look at the two trip ropes. Thief: Use "sneak" mode. Fighter and Magic User: Save. Use "run" mode. (Restore game and try again until you succeed!) Go to the far left or right. Cross the chasm using the right-hand plank (the one with a square on it). Once you have crossed the chasm, go to the door and open it. This is a time-pressure event, so go quickly. First, close the door. Wait for the guards to look in. Then, go to the chair by the door (upper right side), and move the chair to block the door. Go to the candelabra and wait for three of the brigands to enter. Once all three are behind the table, knock the candelabra over to block their path. Wait for the brigands to try coming round the other side of the table. Go to the front of the table and stand on the table. Pull the rope so that the brigands are trapped by the overhead candelabra. Open the door on the right nearest the table, and meet ME. This is the warlock. Ask him about the brigands, the mirror, Elsa, the enchantment, and a dispel potion. Also you can ask him about himself, the search for Elsa, and the Baron. Now you have to tackle the maze. First, go right and up. Then, go left and through the door. When you come out, go down and right through the next door. Pull the chain after you appear by the doorway. Go back, left, then up through the door. Go up to the door there, and try to open it. It won't open but go quickly go to your left. Once the board has fallen, go to the door and open it. Here you see the Brigand Leader. Immediately use the dispel potion on the brigand leader. Elsa and Yorrick escape magically back to the castle. Get the healing potions and the mirror. Go to your right and exit the cave.
BABA YAGA Return to Baba Yaga, enter the hut, but this time use the mirror on the witch as soon as you can. Congratulations! You have completed the prophecy!

Here's how to get through the maze:
First, go right and up. Then, go left and through the door. When you come out, go down and right through the next door. Pull the chain after you appear by the doorway. Go back, left, then up through the door. Go up to the door there, and try to open it. It won't open but go quickly go to your left. Once the board has fallen, go to the door and open it.

Hope that helps...

The game runs too fast on today's computers, so the door closes again before you can reach it.

There is a patch (link below) that fixes this problem. Enjoy the game. :ok:

This game is the best game I have played, with beautiful graphics, sound and gameplay. I cannot imagine why users would rate it a 3! I have played many types of games and many more complex rpgs and adventure games, but still rank this one as my favourite. The remake is far better than the original, it improves upon the game so much. This is the peak of Sierra old-school gaming. It gets a five for me, I would give it 10 out of 5 if i could.

It's simply the combination of fun character development and customisation, thrilling combat and puzzles, and plain qualityh that make it so good. Plus, the old Sierra humour is there as well. I must have finished this game twelve times at least.

I should register so I can edit my posts :D

Anyway, one more comment. I think this one is definitely the best of all the QFG's. I think number 1 is MUCH better than number 4. Shadows of Darkness was ok, but lacking in gameplay a lot compared to So You Wanna Be A Hero. The primitive interface in number 2 was extremely annoying, I could never bring myself to finish the game. Even though it had a lot of excellent features. Thanks to some glitch on my computer, I can't run number 3. Number five was OK but nowhere near number 1's quality.

Yep, follow Kon-Tiki's advice or if you are also using magic cast the Flame Dart at the smilie :D (Yoric's image) then you'll end up at the real door...remember it has a false front which falls when you open it so move back (left) quickly then step on it and open the 'real' door :ok: :bye:

It should work if you install the game to the correct DOSBox directory (i.e. make sure the QFG folder or whatever it's called is inside the CDrive folder) and then run it through DOSBox.

Hey I love the series and I am try to play from the beginning. I had the same problem with yoricks maze in QFG1, I got the patch and it helped.
Unfortunately, The game seems to hang at the finale in the castle. All I can do is click the look icon on different characters. I remember from playing before that you fly away on the magic carpet and save the game for import to QFG2 but this time I can't get there.
Anyone can help or has the same problem????

Hi Grandad

What exactly is the problem?

Can you not find Yorick's maze? Is the door at the top closing too fast? Can't make Yorick leave you alone?

Guest

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP
I can't pass through this part,
look:

Now you have to tackle the maze. First, go right and up. Then, go left and through the door. When you come out, go down and right through the next door. Pull the chain after you appear by the doorway. Go back, left,(until here it's ok) then up through the door. Go up to the door there, and try to open it. It won't open but go quickly go to your left. thats the´part that i can't pass.
When i try to go UP, the mage start throwing itens in my like shoes, meeps, cups, and i get where i've been. or be, i can't move!
How do i pass from this part????????

Talk to the mage (Yorick). Keep talking until you can mention Elsa, then talk some more until Yorick realises you are Elsa's friend. He should now leave.

I played QfG 4&5 before retracing to this QfG1. It's nice of Sierra to remake their old games to appeal to more people. For someone like me who plays the series backward it's been fun experiencing the history that frequently mentioned in later games. This first one is colorful and had atmospheric dialogues. A bit short I think. Character creation's a bit less restricted too. If I add lockpicking to my fighter/wizard, he can be a thief as well. Great game.

I also played the parody "QfG 4 1/2: So You Thought You Were a Hero" which used all QfG1's art and some King's Quest's art. And I enjoyed it despite occasional bugs and some adult content. What do u think about it? Maybe Abd Reloaded can enlist it if they can get permission.

Guest, I think the reason Yorick keeps attacking u is because u failed to convince him in first talk. This is because u didn't get enough background about Elsa & Yorick (talking to other characters). In this case u can knock him off w/ offensive spell if u know magic. Otherwise u'll just have to walk fast dodging his attacks - counting on luck to finish the maze.

Thanks Frodo for your offer to help...I think it was the 'patch' I had downloaded which was causing the problems, so I've deleted it, re-installed and started QFG I one again.

As I said I've played it so many times before without encountering this problem: as Fighter, Mage and a combination of the two :D This time nothing worked.

Actually there are two reasons why I keep play the QFG series again and agin:
1. I love this game;
2. Except in QFG IV (Shadows...) I never get the full score, so I thought the 'patch' will help :ok:

tbtenmo, I have checked ur saves n nothing wrong with 'em. I can finish the maze. Sure Yorick still hit u but ur health can withstand it. At ur latest point: walk thru right lower door, pull chain n notice upper right door opens, walk thru left door back, walk thru upper right door, touch upper left door, walk left a little, walk right a little, and FINALLY open & walk thru upper left door.

If u downloaded the game before ESA incident from here than ur game's already patched n should be no problem.

Frodo
15-10-2005, 09:57 PM
Tbtenmo. I've checked the save games as well, and I can finish the maze. All I can suggest is put the speed down to minimum. If you don't get too close to Yorick, he won't hit you as much.

Keep trying, and you'll get there.

I don't know which file it is to import a character. To make things easier, maybe save the end of QFG1 to the floppy drive (change directory). Then when you start QFG2, just import from A: drive.

I don't know if this will work though, as I haven't tried it.

In the Quest for Glory series, the 1st part was re-released as AGI version . But not part two.

In the Police Quest series, the 1st part too was re-released as AGI version, again not part two.

The Hero's Quest (errr.. i mean quest for glory) games are indeed the best of the Quest games. I personally was a big fan af 2. I played all 5, and loved them all. 4 and 5 were a bit too buggy for my tastes. I am still mad that after playing all 5 games, i couldnt steal the REAL black bird due to the thief bug. But i digress, i just got the VGA version of QfG 1, and was wondering if you can still export your character at the end to play in the later games? I thought that was the bee's knees, and I am planning on playing thru them all. However if you cant export in the VGA, I'll just have to track down an EGA version.

If you right click on it you get a promo for Sierra's game Codename Iceman (or something like that). It's been a while since I played the game, but I remember being confused for ages. It was such a keyboard based game that it took me forever to think to use the mouse to right-click and look at it.

I'm still rather flattered that my walkthrough and map are referenced here! I spent ages back in grade 9 and 10 writing that all up... and I'm glad some people are still using it. I imagine it's a bit confusing for people who have the VGA version, as at that point I'd only played the EGA. I should go through and try to edit for VGA stuff as well :)

Yes you can export your character properly from the VGA version.

I still prefer the EGA version though because combat is much better/responsive, (plus you don't have two interfaces to switch between in combat for hand to hand and spells), and if you run out of stamina in combat you won't automatically die like the VGA version does, you'll just start loosing health instead so you can combat longer. Also casting firebolt at enemies doesn't require you to use the aiming of the cursor, the EGA version will auto target enemies when you arn't in combat.

I never liked the spell casting system in the VGA point and click interface. You'd have to click the status bar, then click the spell menu, then click the spell, then click a target. Where as the SCI interface, you'd just type "cast firebolt" and press enter, and if you want to keep casting, just f3 (or space bar) and enter. And if you did have to target a spell, you could leave the cursor in one spot and just press return a second time to fire it off.

Finally, graphically I like the EGA versions better because you and basically any other animated character actually seem to belong in the scene and don't look like you've been plastered onto a pre-drawn background.

And now my comment: Do all the nice Sierra adventures belong here? Since they are protected by *SA and still are released in collections from time to time, can we then call these games abandoned?

No, we can't. Sorry. You see, they are ESA protected. This means the ONLY way of downloading them would be through a Warez site, and we don't link to those. I apologize.

Just a quick question was the VGA re-make via Sierra, or was it a fan re-make?

(just finished playing the VGA re-make of KQ3, so I'm a very happy little bunny.)

As far as I know it was done by Sierra as a sort of relaunch (similar to the Space Quest 1 remake).

Well if normal ways fail DOSBox is the answer :).

Quest for Glory 1 VGA was remade by Sierra, about the same time they made the Space Quest 1 remake, and also Larry 1 VGA remake.

I was really hoping to find this game here but it has either been removed or was never posted :(

It really is a great game, I have the original on 5.25 floppy but no machines here with one of those drives in it anymore. I am pretty sure it was copy protected so I am not going to hunt a 5.25 drive down just to replay it. Maybe someday i will find it in the rare CD version on a cheap rack.

This VGA version is ESA, but you can download the ORIGINAL EGA version here on AB - http://www.abandonia.com/games/en/979/Ques...nttobeaHero.htm (http://www.abandonia.com/games/en/979/QuestforGloryISoyouwanttobeaHero.htm)

Enjoy. :D

It was removed because ESA demanded that. The good news is that it will become available again next January (that's when the 15-year protection period expires).

Great! I will be looking forward to that.

I'm not planning on posting here ever again, but I did finish Quest for Glory 4 using the anthology version.

I liked number 5 when I played it, but that was years back. Hmm, I can't say if I'd like it now though.

Anyone noticed that the games were origionally referred to as "HERO'S QUEST"? Maybe I'm just an old geezer (hell, I played PONG and later the origional TETRIS when it was made...) that remembers the little things...

(Actually, there was also "Heroes Quest" and I know "Heroe" is Spanish for Hero, but the correct plural of Hero is Heroes. Just the American butchery of the English language at work once again.

The game was first released by Seirra as "Hero's Quest" but it was very quickly pulled off the shelves (like within a few days of release) and repackaged as "Quest for Glory" due to a lawsuit over the name. I believe it was a Milton Bradley board game that it infringed upon but I am not sure about that, it has been a ling time ago!

I was one of the lucky few that grabbed a copy of the original when it first come out. I know it must be pretty rare because I have never seen another although I have seen some hacked copies of it floating around.

In any case, mine is in 5.25 format and not the VGA version. Looking forward to the release of this game as abandonware!

The Quest for Glory series ! - V are addictive and thrilling for those who carry their Hero from Spielburg through Shapeir, Raseir, Tarna and Mordavia to Silmaria, not for casual players or visiters :)!

This is a totally awesome series of games.

I loved being a thief and having to discover where the Thieves Guild is hidden

Ah well! Have never played as a Thief and dislike it! Did try once but when you have to steal from innocent people like the Lady on a Rocker gave up in disjust. Prefer the other roles!
And the thieve's Guild is the easiest to find. Talk to Bruno at Town Gate and then to the other thief in the alley who tells you the password...Oh! That's easy in Spielburg.
Anway have a good time if you prefer that despicible class Ginjah :(!

I want to download the VGA version.

DonCorleone
04-12-2007, 05:46 PM
Since its esa-protection you surely won't find anybody around here scouting you to a file-download of the vga-version... Maybe you'll have some luck with ebay?!

And another chance - but I'm not sure about it at all - could be a remake of the game...

EDIT: Well, as you can see here http://www.agdinteractive.com (http://www.agdinteractive.com/)
the game's second part is still in progress. So I believe there isn't a remade first part of the game.

Something completely different and off-topic: I had some problems putting a link in my post. For example there isn't the possibility to disguise the link anymore. Will this be fixed in the future?
